Thanks for that @DaveHockton. Your experience sounds awful. What is the red ring of death, what causes it, and what is the remedy? Or is this addressed elsewhere in this forum where I can read more about this situation? Will want to put it on my radar.
it is a main battery failure, rwd
ring around the right hand instrument cluster. basically dead cells in the main battery pack. delays were no skilled technicians to do the repair, parts delays and no equipment to do the repair. there are many articles on this forum regarding main battery failures !!

I tend to agree. Until I got the Taycan, Teslas (I owned 4 Model S from new) required the most dealer (or Service Center in Tesla terms) visits. HOWEVER, all my Teslas only required TLC from service in the first few months,
I had quite a bit of expense on our Model X especially on the last year or so we owned it, some was wear and tear (air suspension components) but others I’m not sure - replacing the OBC at near £3K was rubbing salt in the wounds.

I’m sure a “simple” 3 or Y would be far better especially if made in Shanghai or Berlin rather than California.

However in terms of complex comparability I’d say an S/X is on the same plane as a Taycan. My Taycan is far younger (but touches wood) has been reliable and not a service centre magnet 😂

Sorry to hear that @DaveHockton. I shall read threads about the topic. Thank you.

It's been a disappointing first Porsche ownership for me.

Its one thing the car having issues, but unforgivable imo that there are not enough Techs to fix them and decent courtesy cars.
Having to wait months to even get the car looked at is unforgivable. If you can't fix and service the things - don't f**kin build and sell them!

I pulled out of the Macan EV. I don't trust Porsche any more.
I will be handing the Taycan back after 4 years and moving on.
Im not hanging on to a ticking time bomb.

My first Model X, one of the very first sold, was rock solid. My second Model X was a piece of sh*t.

The second one bricked on me while on vacation during the pandemic at Kiawah in South Carolina. It caused enormous problems for trying to get back home to DC. They were insisting on towing it to Florida, which was absurd because they were expecting me to go get the X when repaired. Not a chance. No amount of speaking with them about how it was wrong to tow my car so much farther way from my home could get them to budge, so I finally just paid to tow the car to a Tesla service center in northern VA despite it only being one year old and the repairs (and towing) theoretically covered 100% by warranty.

The problem with cars (and any experience) is that your own anecdotal experiences influence your own view too much (which can be seemingly validated by similar reports from the minuscule sample size of owners who visit social media, who also coincidentally tend to be those who are having issues so they sought answers on the Internet). Have a problem with a vehicle? Easy to think that they all are suspect. Have multiple problems and others do too? Easy to think that they all are lemons. Don't have any problems? Easy to think the vehicle is brilliant and the other people who have problems are the rare exception to the rule.

I would say that first models out for a new technology are always more problematic than later years. But I'm not even confident of that in light of my Tesla experience (although my Tesla experience of decreasing quality is why I will never own another, in addition to Musk being a Tw@t), but even that opinion may be faulty as it is based only on experience with two vehicles of the same model.

Best of luck with your car, and may you always believe that your own opinion is correct!

Thanks. For the record it’s just my experience of two cars which I’ve owned and any extrapolations or meanings outside of that is up to the reader to decide. 👍

Oh, to be clear, I didn't mean that as an insult or catty remark. We are all in the same boat, so I was poking fun at the folly of being certain about much given our limited exposure. I personally wish I knew as much as I did when I was 18! :p

I look to this forum to help me understand what I am missing.
Nothing - that is what you are missing.

There is no denying some folks have had terrible experiences with their cars, but you are not alone in experiencing trouble-free ownership.

I, too, sometimes wonder if I’m holding it wrong. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Once I went to a charger and charger plug got stuck in the car, I was not able to pull it out. Typical lock, unlock, even emergency disconnect thingie located between the door and frame did not work. I have called Porsche dealer right next to me - and they didn't even come. Their answer was "we have no service vehicles". Mind you vehicle is under warranty. Pretty disappointing. After 7 hours of dancing around and sticking screwdrivers around charging port and the cable I was able to disconnect it. I think the latch inside the car got broken mechanically.

That's the most concerning aspect for me, assuming it really is the case (seemingly so, from the experience of forum members). Surely the same issue should affect hybrid models, and even pure ICE models that have modern electronic components and control systems- what is so apparently special about Taycans? Any Porsche mechanic should have access to documentation and tools to diagnose problems to the point that faulty parts can be replaced, or software specialists called upon remotely. I suspect that the real issue is that one or both of those things is incapable of keeping pace with demand from dealerships.

Someone in this forum years ago posted what he had supposedly heard from Porsche dealer service:
Fixing a Taycan is like throwing chewing gum and hoping it sticks.

Plug didn't come out of Taycan after charging?
You are not alone - happened to me and many others: https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/t...stuck-to-car-compilation-of-forum-tips.12326/

As with other things, what matters most are your own experiences ;)
