Added link to Porsche APB5 recall report dated May 31, 2024. It says planned owner notification date is June 10, 2024. See edited original post.
Still no TSB posted providing dealer service remedy.
Have they moved the goalposts again?

There are at least 4 recalls for faults that can lead to battery fires. APB2, APB5, ARA4 and ARA5. Porsche's response is really disturbing. From 23V840/APB5:

"Chronology :
In 2021 Porsche became aware of a report of a single vehicle battery fire outside of the U.S. that occurred shortly after charging . Porsche investigated this incident and began obtaining comparable undamaged batteries from the field for analysis. In 2023, Porsche became aware of further instances of battery fires in Taycan vehicles after charging in various markets worldwide. In total, Porsche is aware of one field incident in the Unites States potentially attributable to the subject issue. The field incident resulted in property damage and no injuries. Porsche is not aware of any other warranty or other claims in U.S. attributable to the subject issue.

Porsche’s investigation to date indicates that repeated overcharging can damage battery cells and eventually lead to short circuits, creating the risk of thermal events and fires. Although Porsche is still investigating the root cause of this issue, on 6 December 2023 it determined that a safety-related defect exists in the subject vehicles."


A known issue in 2021. More evidence in 2023. In the case of APB5 there is a gap of 5 months between notifying the dealer network and the owners. Many dealers appear to be unaware of and/or unable to address the repairs. I find it hard to believe that Porsche (VW group) and LG are being so slow to address a known problem. Was a corporate decision made that it was cheaper to stall and risk a house or two burning down than do what is right and take care of their customers' safety?

My car passed APB2 and is not in the production ranges for APB5 and ARA4. ARA5 is still unknown. Although my car has given me no indication of any problems (battery voltages are within 10mv, range consistent) ARA5 could apply and my battery might go up in flames. Porsche apparently can't be bothered to figure out the cars that need attention under this recall. The little crap is exactly that. Wonky PCM, console lid,... those were all there when I bought the car. A potential battery fire and an excruciatingly long/non response from Porsche is a whole different matter. I took my order for a refresh Turbo off my dealer's list. The way Porsche is handling these batteries cost them at least one repeat customer.

I was one of the lucky 205 to receive this letter. Although I’ve checked my cell voltage distribution several times over the years and have always been amazed at how consistent they’ve been across all cells.

I thought this part about telematics was interesting. I wonder what other data is getting sent back.

I was one of the lucky 205 to receive this letter. Although I’ve checked my cell voltage distribution several times over the years and have always been amazed at how consistent they’ve been across all cells.

I thought this part about telematics was interesting. I wonder what other data is getting sent back.

Check your voltages at 10-15% charge. This is absolutely critical because a 'bad cell' may not be evident until the battery charge is very low. I had this situation with a bad cell that was probably bad from the time I bought the car, but there was no error code until the dealer took the battery down to 10-15% charge 35,000 miles later. Everyone should do this every few months to check their cells. Also charge (using the home charger) to 100% and let it sit overnight to allow the cells to balance.

I gotta be honest, if my car is affected and it's out of commission for weeks to months, I might just be done with this thing.

I keep envying my wife's Model 3 for a variety of reasons:

- Software updates are frequent, AT HOME, and fun.
- The radio ALWAYS works.
- The car recognizes me by my phone and I don't have to use a separate fob.
- When I put the car in park the seat and wheel automatically move to a position I can get out, and automatically revert when I get in. (I have to manually use presets 2 and 3 on my door for this, every single time.)
- The charging network is plentiful and drama free.
- Repairs are way more reasonable (I'm still stinging from the 16K roof repair...and have purchased $500 in parts from suncoast to remediate damage that happened during.)

I love Porsches, but I'm firmly an EV driver now, and they only give me one option with a lot of tradeoffs. (The E-Macan is a non-starter for me.)
