Poor mobile reception

I’m in the UK too and do have wireless charging. I’m intrigued to find out what method they are using to boost the GSM signal to your phone. In the old days, your phone placed into a suitable car kit created a direct, physical connection between your car’s external antenna and your phone. If using Bluetooth, this is something quite different, which is interesting.

It's not using Bluetooth but will be the antenna within the cradle extended by hidden wire to the PCM I would guess.

I notice I get much worse reception in my taycan than I do my previous car, in similar geographic areas. If I open my window (or door when parked), my signal gets better.

Glass roof option by default is noise and thermal blocking. And I have the noise and thermal glass option. If you have either of these, there is no doubt it attributes to low cell signal.

Hi i agree that the windows have a demonstrably negative impact on phone reception because as you say the signal improves on window opening.

The impact of the glass roof is harder to judge because i dont know if its a similar double layer construction and you cant remove it ! (obviously).

presumably though Porsche had a reason to put a phone signal booster in the car. My dealer said it was definitely in the car build but were not able to tell if it was operating and putting the phone in the cradle seems to make no difference..

Both our phones are iphones (12 & 13).

one thing i have not tried is putting the phone in the boot/trunk. I will try this in the next few days If bluetooth works with it there .

in-lan to put real pressure on the dealer in a few weeks re the internal antenna..

On more cynical days, I suspected it was to force you to pay extra for the Porsche in-car hotspot....

V late reply. But nothing happened. Its a problem exacerbated i think by thermal insulated glass. Signal booster in the car doesn't work either. The phone connectivity is the worst thing about an otherwise excellent car.
