Notified by email today from NHTSA that the previous High Voltage Short Circuit issue has been expanded. This issue is associated with a fire risk. Letters are being mailed on or about 11/29/24 with a projected first quarter fix. Porsche will install advanced diagnostic software and will notify affected owners. If affected, they will advise not to charge above 80% until the battery module can be replaced. My guidance is not to charge above 80% until the car can be diagnosed (Q1 2025).

You might want to consider not charging in your garage, which has been my practice since 2021.

Porsche internal designation is recall ARB6 & ARB7.

Here is the link for the recalls, both were dated 10/01/2024:

Assuming those that have had ARB4 fixed won’t get this. Let’s hope at least

Does the Porsche warranty officially cover a fire caused by the battery (like Tesla did, to assure owners)?

no; There was that one case where a taycan burned a house down due to faulty charger, and porsche did not cover the cost.

Oh, I hope I get a new battery. Fingers crossed!! ?
Don't get your hopes up that Porsche will do the right thing to resolve the battery issues. Per the recall notices "Affected high-voltage battery modules will be replaced". So let's leave in a few marginal modules so that the new detection software can find them 6 months after the the first module replacement. Rinse and repeat.

Mine was originally sent for cell replacement and then changed to a new battery. I have been without the car 3 months. Latest update is the new battery is to arrive this week. Once that and the brake recall are completed, I will get the car back. The time it is taking to do the diagnosis on whether the module replacement is an option for each battery pack is taking ridiculously long because the battery pack is removed from the car and shipped to Oklahoma.

It seems everything in the US is happening way slower than here. I think they din’t have enough qualified personal over the ocean and either fly people around or ship batteries…

FYI - Additional follow-up from PCNA says the new battery will not have an 8 year warranty. The warranty term will stay the same as the original battery. So for me that means less than 5 years warranty on the brand new battery they are putting in the car.

Questions I asked and the responses I got back...
  1. Can someone check and get an estimate on how much longer the battery cell replacement will take? I will gather this information and advise you asap.
  2. Are there any creative compensation options for the costs I have incurred during this repair process? Regretfully, PCNA does not provide compensation for recalls. I apologize.
  3. Will my battery warranty be extended past the original 8 years with this recall? The new battery is included in the current vehicle warranties. Your HV battery warranty is valid through 8/23/29.
  4. During this recall process I have received the ARB0 recall, will that be a lengthy repair as well? Is your Porsche dealership completing all campaigns while your vehicle is there? I will research the campaign duration and advise asap.

It would be even faster if they learned from Tesla cars (on the market before MissionE) and had functional OTA updates and telemetry collection. But, the old companies always think they know best.

We have to hope Porsche (and the regulators?) have determined that the software detection is robust and once a module is identified and fixed, it will be good for its life with respect to the short circuit safety risk. Rise and repeating would cost them a lot more given the repair is on them, never mind pi$$ing off their customers.

Will be interesting to see how this is treated outside the USA, you'd like to think/hope a safety issue in one country is treated the same globally.
