Switched to this tarrif with cheap leccy for 6hrs at night. I have 2EV’s; the primary car is my non-Porsche which I charge on the octopus app

the Taycan is my secondary car. I want to charge it to 85% in the cheap zone but cannot seem to set up the profile correctly. It keeps charging to 100%;

I have 2 profiles. A general one set at 85% and a location specific one also set at 85% but within the time zone of cheap electricity.

however it keeps charging to 100%
I’m confused

I don’t bother with profiles at all and just use a single daily timer for what you want.

This is the right way to do it IMO (or at least, a way that works... Who really knows what the programmers intended ?).

What sort of charger are you using? And do you charge both at the same time? Could you link IO with the charger instead?

@tylerdurden you shouldn’t need to set a timer as Octopus want to control your charge. As a general rule I keep the Taycan settings as simple as possible, so I have 2 profiles, general set 100% and a home location one set to 85%. I then use octopus for the timings or if I didn’t have that I’d use the time settings on my charger.

Octopus is setup against my charger, not the car.

The car will complain if it is plugged in and wanting charge but there’s no charge coming but it will sit and wait until the charger starts.

The OP noted his other EV is the main one attached to IO. I don't think IO will therefore "recognise" the car.

Linking to the charger would be the only way around this... I looked at this option, but the cost of buying a different charger wouldn't make it worthwhile as our 2nd car is a PHEV.

ah missed that. You’re right though, if it’s possible, linking IO to the charger would solve it.

Yes; I have an EV connected to the octopus app, I’m asking in relation to my Taycan which isn’t controlled by octopus.

essentially it would be the same issue for anyone with a non octopus economy 7 contract. How do you set the porker to charge at the cheap rate at night but stop at 85%

I haven’t got my Taycan yet, ordered a MY24 10 month old one last week but I have a Wallbox Pulsar max connected to IO and that charges my current ipace and ID Buzz very well indeed.
I’ve let the charger do the charging and it’s pretty seamless. I don’t have any settings on either car other than max charge 80% within each car. Then if I do have a trip I will up that to 100% in the car and request that on the Octopus app.
I am hoping it will be equally as simple with the Taycan.

Can I ask how the car knows only to draw charge during off-peak using a timer only? I get that if you're at, say, 75% and the car decides to draw charge to get to target eg 80/85% for departure at 0530.

However, if the car is at, say, only 25% it cannot charge to 85% between 2330-0530 Ready for departure at 0530. (I have a similar issue to the OP as Octopus say I don't have a smart meter even though it was installed via them...long story!)

Iirc what you are setting are the preferred hours to charge. If it needs more time, it will go outside these hours I think.

I haven’t had to use timers for a while as have been on IO and let that do its thing.

Hey, thanks for this.
Initially read it and thought "What!" made no sense.
But now, thinking it through, I think this is starting to make sense.

So I'm assuming if you are at 60% and plug in it will wait till say 3am that start charging such that it reaches 85% exactly at 0530.

However, I assume if you plug in at 10% charge, it will start charging early enough that again it will reach 85% at 0530. So it might part charge at higher cost.

Frankly feels too complex. I would like to just be able to tell it to charge within a certain time window.
