Sorry if I upset any Taycan owners!

I’ve made the switch from a M3 Tourer to a 2025 4sCT for financial reasons as the incentive in the UK is still attractive if you own your own company, and that’s where it stops.

I miss the M3 for many reasons but the main reason is the blatant lie regarding claimed miles on a full charge, I’m now some 4000 miles in so believe it to be run in, I’m also aware it’s winter here but the drop off is nuts! Claimed 370 real world 270 and that’s me trying yo get the best out of it!

Im off to France next week in it with a family 5 fully loaded with ski gear, god knows what I’ll be getting?!

Off to Avoriz again in Easter I wonder what I’ll be in?!

Well, I am in Austria right now, on another 1000 km trip one way, with the Taycan.
It is a different way of travelling, but not a tad bit worse to me.
you will have charging stops every 2,5 - 3 hours for about 15-25 min.
A short break to relax, drink a coffee or whatever.
If you don't like that and you are not willing to go down that road, an electric vehicle might not be for you.
I think it's the most enjoying and relaxing way of travelling.

How much did you do on your m3 during winter?

BMW states 10.5l/100km WLTP. But have you ever been able to achieve that? :))

Fully loaded in the winter with 21 inch winterwheels ar highway peage speeds in France will be around 28-30 kwh/ 100 km in my experience. Good thing ontbindt too cold now, that does make a big difference. If you put on a rooftop box it Will be less. If you are worried about the range, decrease AC temperature and travel speed. But at the end charging is so fast that it doenst really matter. Unless you decided to travel on a busy saturday in the midle of the Eastern holidays CV charging shouldnt be a problem in France. You may consider driving of friday / sunday.

Youre milage isnt actually too bad. But what EV car producers should give is the range at highway speed at optimaal and cold temperatures. That actually is the only range that really matters. All the range figures given are at speeds and temperatures that dont really matter and may fool the buyer. A Dutch car channel takes one third of the WLTP range for high way range and the usually is quite correct. Unless you travel much faster, much volder outside or with something on the roof.

you will be fine. Just put Avoriaz in PCM while at home and see how many charge stops it gives. It is accurate. Do the same in ABRP app.

Just go with the charge flow, have a coffee, stretch your legs. It Will take one hour or so more. But what is one hour on a week skiing. You wont be the fastest but you Will be more relaxed when you arrive.

I only read the post because you wrote "May of made a mistake" rather than "may have made a mistake" and wondered if English was your first language ;)

Interested to know your comparison on the two as an m3 touring has always interested me.

Range wise I’d say sounds normal. Summer will see 15-20% more if comparing to very low ambient temps.

I drove to France last year and the ev infrastructure is great, Fastned we’re brill, quick and cheap compared to uk.

you mentioned financials, if your charging at home with odd trip out on cheap French charges I presume you’ll be saving a fortune on day to day fuel costs?

There used to be a range calculator on the Porsche website for the Taycan ,but like most internet based things Porsche seems to have scraped that. You could chose wheel sizes, driving speeds, motorway or town driving as well as temperature. That would indicate the effect of temperature etc. But that site seems to be gone now, which is a shame.

Does anybody still have the link to that site

Thanks for all your comments, I guess 270 miles is ok as I charge at home 99% of the time but we do load the car for family ski and boat holidays throughout the year and having to plan the trip could be just a ballache with 3 kids and a wife on board! Will be interested to see how this 2000 mile trip plays out, just bought 20” wheels with snow tyres, excited about hitting the snow! I guess being a petrol head and driving the Taycan for a 3 months has left me wanting, and any excuse to swap it out..

I’m fortunate enough to have some petrol toys so roll on the spring!

Thanks

different animal would jump back in a heart beat but £30k off corp bill and a £100 BIK and being able to run some of my other car costs through the Taycan is a no brainer.

The only downside I used to claim private mileage which was circa £15k per year now I can’t as the company owns the CT..

If I didn’t own other cars it would be gone

The app isnt actually that precise. Beter tot do it in the car it takes temperatures and elevation in account. Which is actually quite important when driving from and to the alps. For the return trip I usually need one charge stop less. And personale I prefere less but longer stops.
