Drove over a nail and need to swap tires. Any tire recommendations? Should I go to a regular tire shop or straight to a dealership?

As the title says, unfortunately insurance only covers the tire actually damaged, and the other three tires aren’t brand new, so I’ll have to swap all 4.
Any brand recommendations, and will a regular tire shop be able to do this or will Porsche do special calibrations (I.e. is it worth the dealer mark up?)

Not sure where you are but my local dealer matches online tire shops so the cost for the tires is at least the same or better. The other thing is alignment, so depending on your tire wear, sensible approach is to agree to an alignment check and then review the results before agreeing to full alignment, which may not be necessary. Then, there are tire pressure sensors, for that alone, I would not use a non-dealer shop as we have cases on the forum for them to be damaged at a tire swap and then most likely you have to go to the dealer to replace the bad ones.

Therefore, I see no benefit of going to a non-dealer shop for tires.

Why would you need to swap all 4 unless they're all worn? If not, you just need to swap 2 if the new and old have too much variance in tread depth.

Are you sure that the punctured tyre is beyond repair?
I was able to get it patched at a tire shop locally . I’m just worried about the patch integrity. Luckily my tire puncture happened near home. I don’t want the patch to fail when I am on the highway or something.

You only need two.

In theory any tyre place can do it. But they need to be extra vigilant on how they Jack the car up. Also needs to be in jack mode (manual explains).

I have a very good tyre place near me and trust them more than a dealer, who IME (of all dealers) will charge substantially more than normal places.

I had one tyre patched due to a nail in the centre of the tyre 3 months after delivery, so long as you get it from a reputable tyre shop, it will work as good as a normal tyre.

I did a few thousand miles on it at all speeds with no issues at all. Of course, I’m a magnet, so got another nail in the other side in the side wall so had to change both fronts at that point.

If the the unaffected tyre is near new, with minimal wear, you might get away with one new tyre, but if not, both fronts (or rears) require replacing, certainly not all 4

Mine is almost smack dab in the middle and on the raised trim, so I got very lucky in that sense.
Tire shop patched it for $30, but they are a very reputable shop, so I trust the work.
Hopefully it lasts because these tires have another 20k miles in them!

FYI, for the future, you only have to replace more than the punctured tire if the new tire will exceed 30% tread depth difference of the other tire on one axle.

If you care about details on your car, unfortunately, you cannot have a Discount Tire type tire shop do the repair in whole. If you have ever watched them do tires, you will know that they won't use guide pins to ensure they don't bump your PCCB rotors (if you have them). They will pop your center cap out and just toss it on the floor (most likely face down) while they do the repair. They have no idea where the jack mode option is (you have to stick your head in the car and show them how to do it).

I have Discount Tire do tires all the time but it takes some due diligence on your part. One, remove the wheel yourself and only bring the wheel to them (trust me, you don't want them touching your car). Two, remove the wheel weights before you take the wheel to them or they will just scrape them off with a crude knife and scratch up your wheel and also leave the extra residue on the wheel. Three, take a picture before you hand over the wheel and tell the service advisor the $3,000 wheel is from your beloved Porsche and you want it to stay in mint condition.

If you don't care about details, Discount Tire will do a fine job. It will be safe and you will be on your way in less than an hour. You just can't complain afterward about scratches, etc.

As a general proposition, dealerships charge more for tires because of overhead, etc. Same with mechanic services. That said, I will be replacing all four tires on my 2022 Taycan later today at Grand Prix Performance in Costa Mesa, California with Continental 275/45 R19 and 225/55 R19 tires for $1,442.50, tires, taxes, disposal fees, installation and balancing.

I’ll add my two cents to the « drive it until the tread wear indicates a replacement is needed » camp.

If a puncture is near or on the sidewall, it’s a different story, but a repaired puncture on the flat portion of your tire is essentially a permanent fix.
