Great thread. Out of interest, under normal conditions as opposed to when the car is left standing, how is the 12V battery kept charged up? What does the job of an alternator in an ICE car?

Thank - so if the car is "on" the 12V battery is charging and will charge up to full the longer the car is on - all utilising the big battery?

If you're driving it yes. But how long it takes a depleted 12v to get back to full - no idea.

Any thoughts on using the NOCO force mode to try and force the battery to startup?

Is your 12 volt battery dead now and the car complete without power?

Yes, the 12V charger didn't charge it at all.
On my CTEK charger there is the option to press the reset button for 10 seconds, which will make sure the relay gets activated and charging can begin. It seems to work fine and the charging has been great.

Check the manual for your charger or contact the Noco support to ask if that is the way to go,.

Yeah, I was thinking about using force mode. Do you use it on your CTEK charger and then just keep it on? Or do you go back and turn that off after a while?

I have not needed it now, but earlier. If I remember correctly it will boost the charging by voltage and the relay that protects the battery will close. Once that happens the charger returns to normal operation and starts charging. All of that was done with the car switched off and worked a treat.

I boosted my relay with the Noco booster and once the relay closed I relied on the car to take over charging the 12 volt battery..

Koloa med NOCO och se bad de säger. Jag känner inte till den laddaren! Men det är säkert något liknande

So I tried using the NOCO Genius 5 and a small battery booster. Documenting this in case anyone else tries.

The small battery booster will activate the car ( can hear the relays click ) and the car wakes up but after a few seconds the booster will go into overload protection. I am guessing that this is because the 12V Taycan battery can deliver more current than the small booster. It stays awake for some seconds, enough that I can switch over to the NOCO Genius 5 and put it into force mode.

However the car then turns off. The NOCO Genius will only do force mode for 5 minutes before going back to regular charging which isn't enough to keep the battery "on" to actually charge.

---

So I am now thinking to buy a bigger booster so at it can keep the car awake for sometime, at least enough to be able to have some options on how to charge the 12V battery.

The NOCO Genius 5 is probably better as a trickle charger for Lithium-Ion batteries, but has worked really well for other battery types in the past.

I'm confused.

Isn't the purpose of the booster to unlock the frunk (if needed) and then power up the cpu from the frunk for a minute or so after which the car should handle the 12v charging by itself?

Is it worth already preparing 2 comfort acces dongles for the 12v?
so it’s just plugging in 1 connector in the footwell /frunk

This is getting silly people! We shouldn't have to do this. The 12v battery and charging software is not fit for purpose if we have to go to these lengths to trickle charge it!

Spend £100k and see the car dead every 2 weeks if you don't use it? I don't think so
