Hi

Is it true that the Taycan can only charge 11KW on a 3 phase 22kw charger? I've got mine plugged into my work charger now and its doing 11kw 24 miles per hour.

My tesla used to charge at work in a few hours which was extremely useful

I wondered if I needed a different cable or something?

Thanks for any responses

Hi,

Yes for now the max is 11Kw. Thats what the hardware on the car supports.

Thanks.... that's a pain.. I never thought to ask as my Tesla was 2015 …. don't suppose it will be a retrofit when available?

@bangersandmash is correct.

I was worried about this when ordering as really wanted 22kw but do you really need it,

plug in from flat overnight and the car is charged to 85% easily the next morning.

Ask yourself: does it need to be charged in 4 hours and doesn't do anything for the rest of the 8 hours?
I can fully charge my car when I start at 20% and leave after 8 hours at 7km/min (which is 24 mls/hr).

Taycan can only charge at 11kW for now.
They were planning 22kW for MY2021 but never heard about it since.

If Ive been to a meeting that's a way away Id often pop to office for an hour and it would give me enough to get home

Umm - no it does not, unless the configurator specs are wrong for the UK... I do not think 22Kw charging is standard across all countries today...Mine is also MY21 and I am expecting 11Kw onboard charging max. I also do not think its a question of a future s/w update as I think the internal cabling has to be different as well (thicker and heavier).

It will eventually be on the MY21 Edition. This post here from another user suggests it has been delayed though.

In the UK most homes are single phase so you get a max of about 7kw anyway. 22kw is doable at many work places where 3 phase is common. I had an Andersen charger installed at home on a single phase supply, I also had to get my supply fuse changed from a 60amp to 100amp.

In practice 7kw is fine for a charge overnight assuming you start at a reasonable time.

its hard to go back. I often had to go out last minute so quick charging really helped me. I never dreamt of checking if the new Porsche would charge as quick as a 2015 tesla !

I’ve got that exact setup at work, 3 phase with PMCC. The OMCC is capable of 22kw output but the car ain’t. Yet... I’m hoping that I can upgrade, but to be honest. 11kw is perfect. I’m also now timing a charge to 90 every night, meaning I get home at 85, and plug in the next day at the office.
