Evidently MT reviewers also think it's new - I know for a fact Tesla has been doing it since 2012. The comment from MT about Tesla taking longer is because Tesla updates all parts of the car during an OTA, while the MIB4 update they are talking about here is only updating MIB4, as I doubt every single ECU in 2027 Taycan has this A/B boot partition concept and they all synchronize to switch to newly updated version. So comparing apples to oranges.

Interesting quote from the article:

In the US configurator this appears to be optional. Perhaps Porsche is making it standard in some regions, or MT was misinformed, or it's just another hallucination (by AI or humans)?

Thanks jdirik. As posted above I concur that it is a positive E-shift evaluation. However there is one sentence that is not accurate when the article states, “For 2027, all Taycans also come standard with eight phony gears called E-Shift. “ That is true of all GTS and above modela but for the rest of the models selecting E-shift option box would also require additional options to be selected, e.g., Sports Chrono and Bose (perhaps more).

But other than that one inaccurate sentence, it was informative and fun to read.

Also a lot of maybe unintentional fanboy missleading info:
- all new 2027 taycans come with 2 phisical gears in the transmision... so did all taycans until now
- all new 2027 taycans come with the 105kw battery.... if you spec it; and so did all taycans since 2025
- all new 2027 taycans come with e-shift as standard - completely wrong. Only in some markets does gts, turbo, turbo s and gt come with it as standard. In switzerland no trim has it as standard; you can spec a 300k turbo s and it will still be a paid option

Why 7,500 rpm? Why not 9,000? Or 12,000? Or 15,000?! No real reason was given other than Porsche had to pick something, and the E-Shift redline is higher than, say, the Panamera GTS (7,300 rpm) and Turbo S (6,800 rpm). We did press one engineer on this point, and he eventually said something like, “Stay tuned.”

I wonder if they also added simulated engine damage if you redline it too much - simulated Engine light ON, car goes into turtle mode. Perhaps even simulated engine repair visits to the dealer.

I hadn’t heard this explanation about how the eshift isn’t slower but now it makes sense:

Jonny and his copy editors apparently are not a fan of validating his assertions before publishing. The factual errors undermine the accuracy of his impressions.
His prognostications about what Porsche will be releasing in the future are suspect as well. It all comes off as unprofessional. I’ve seen his video content and it is enjoyable but this and another article I clicked on dimmed my view of his insights and his approach to automotive journalism.
