Update - charging issue resolved by replacing the AC charging unit. It took 3 weeks in total. I week for them to keep the car and diagnostic ( seems long ) and then 2 weeks to get the part and replace it.

I took the car back after the diagnostics.

My CT4 2022 has a similar issue.
After about 10,000km, mainly charged from home at low 7.6 Kw.

Apparently it is a part inside the VW metallic box, probably the AC charger, just below that green lock. That will be replaced.
I was surprised to see so much complexity under the hood.

The AC charger is the bigger metal box under the other one. Its the one that is sitting just over the coolant system tubes.

The smaller metal box (part: 9J1 963 507) just under the green lock is the HV Heater. I'm not 100% sure what it does but assume it acts as part of the air-conditioning circuit that provides heat to the cabin and maybe the HV battery when required.

My '20 Turbo is at the dealer for this exact same issue at the moment. They are planning to replace the onboard AC charger (their phrasing). Waiting on the parts at the moment, hoping they are here early next week.

Same symptoms - AC charging didn't work on either side, but DC charging worked fine.

If I was to guess I would say a safety lock to ensure the HV battery is disconnected when someone is working on any HV systems in the car (like the AC charger)- ensures that nobody accidentally turns it back on, only the guy working on the car should have the key.

I think the AC charger is the box further down near the floor.

It prevents the HV battery contractors from engaging. The padlock is around the HV battery disconnect that Fire Departments are trained to pull if they are putting out a Taycan fire.

There is one in the rear trunk area too.

So what does it look like when the padlock is not there (unlocked)?

Also keen to know what any other bits of that 'engine' are, just out of curiosity....?
I now know the AC charger and HV heater. I wonder what everything else is / does?

Looks like the black plug with a red locking mechanism just pulls up to disconnect the HV battery. In that picture above, there appears to be a yellow tag with instructions under the lock. Given this is for emergency responders, it should not require disassembling the car to get to it. Pop the hood, look around that area and you will probably find it (sorry, no Taycan of my own yet, but getting closer to it 🤞).

It's interesting to me to see the manufacturing optimisations that have been made as the model matures. For example, taking a look at the part where all the cooling hoses meet above ^.

In earlier years that looked a lot more messy:
