I just heard on the Apple WWDC announcement that Apple Wallet keys will be adding a partnership with Porsche soon.

I didn't see it in the list of logos, but she said it verbally.

Porsche was mentioned in the the Logos as well…. (at 00:33:14 in the keynote)

I very much doubt it for the original Taycans… maybe J1.2 and the newer Macans.

My speculation is that it's most likely in a newer gen PCM that has Carplay Ultra as well..

Knowing porsche, don't hold your breath. Maybe in a year or two, or more, when they finally figure out how to leverage the Rivian investment they made.

What will be the benefit when you optioned Comfort Access? I never had a car with Apple Key support, so what am I missing?

I am assuming this will basically act as normal car key; being able to open your boot/frunk/lock/unlock/close windows.

If not, and it's just another interface for the lock/unlock button in the porsche app that hardly ever works, then it's just wasted development time.

I'd much rather they focus on releasing apple car play ultra

You can open, lock your car without needing to carry the physical key fob.

With Comfort Access, you still need to carry the key fob on you.

Think of it as Apple Pay - you can use the iPhone to make credit card payments without carrying the physical credit card.

I must be getting old. This is a solution to a non existing problem right?
But happy to see Porsche is adding new stuff. Fun to see if we ever get it on j1.1 or j1.2

Not necesarly. You always take your phone with you, always. Do you ever go somewhere with your car without having your phone with you?

With this feature, it would be 1 less thing to bring with you/carry in your pocket. You could stop carrying the keyfob, and just have the phone you would have had with you anyway - assuming porsche implements it fully, like other manufacturers, and not just some half assed shitty midway solution.

Now, is it something we desperately needed? Nah... again, i'd much rather get carplay ultra to finally rid myself of the shitty PCM.

The MyPorsche app has been listed in the Apple App Store as ”supporting” wallet for many years now with no obvious ”wallet” functionality visible. Which makes me suspect that this CarKey support – which is a wallet function – has been in the works for sometime.

CarKey also support both Bluetooth and NFC implementations – which I’d be hopefully (bluetooth at least) hardware has been in their cars for sometime.

I think there is a real chance this will come to existing cars.

I have it in my bmw. It completely replaces the fob. One of the things I’m bummed about losing.
☝ KapDad gets it.

@Jasper4S once you have it you will want it in ALL your cars regardless of make or model.

I had it previously in my M8 Convertible and my wife has it in her Tesla. After carrying no keys during that time I still to this day constantly go to get in my Taycan and don't have the key.

Everyone ALWAYS has their phone so its a no brainer to eliminate something that can be lost or stolen. I have an AirTag on my keyfob as well but that just makes it more bulky/clunky. With the acceleration in my Turbo S its SO easy for the fob to shoot out of my pocket and end up underneath the seat in a very hard to reach area.

Also with all the cost cutting Porsche is doing, this saves them that cost but then I am sure the dealerships will be pissed they can't charge you $1000 to rekey your car if the keys are lost or stolen ?

It’s very convenient. My wife has a Tesla and because you always carry your phone, there no looking for your key. It’s a small thing but really easier. The car still knows who’s driving it. The Tesla (and my M850) then lock the car when you leave. I wish Porsche had that feature.
It should be part of the Porsche app.
