I am having some issues with my centre cap on my wheel. It protrudes by about 5mm. It sits flush on all other wheels. I have tried multiple times to try to get it to seat properly, but it just seems to hit a brick wall. I recently had a refurb, but they certainly haven't taken the wheel back by that much, and probably not at all around the centre. I am baffled. Does anyone have any thoughts on how I can get it to click in properly? I am concerned about it just coming out when I am driving and I don't want to have to trek all the way back to the wheel company. Thanks

I would remove the wheel and push out the center cap completely (from the inside) and then inspect to see what is going on. It should just push in at this point unless a pebble or something is in the way.

Thanks. I have removed the centre cap and have cleaned the inside of the hole/seat for the cap. I also used a caliper to measure the depth of the seat and the cap dimension and they match, so it doesn't look like it is a problem with the thickness of the paint.

Interesting. Maybe a pic might help.

Maybe switch the centercaps with another wheel to see if the wheel is the issue or its the centercap and go from there.

That's a good point. I will swap the front two tomorrow. Here is a pic of the cap.

Have you tried fitting that cap in another wheel (and another wheel's cap on this one)?

Would tell you whether it's the wheel or cap.

If they're like mine, they're plastic tabs/lugs with a metal spring ring around them. I wonder if one or the other is broken. Finding out whether it's the wheel or the cap will help diagnose.

Thanks Andy. I will give this a go tomorrow. Interestingly there is no metal ring around the plastic tabs on this one. I may have problems getting the other one out if there is a metal ring on that one...I wonder if that is part of the problem, although, it simply won't go in any further regardless of how hard I push, or even hit with my palm.

I dont think that kind has the metal ring around it but I could be wrong.

I wanna say one of the tabs broke off (or its angled out) and the leg is not compressing as you're pushing in, hitting the step lip in the center hub not letting it push in. (not sure if that makes sense) But once its off the wheel it should be more obvious if this is the case..

I see what you mean. All of the lugs look to be perfect, so this is not stopping them. I may end up taking the wheel back to the refurbishment company to ask if they can sort it out. Didn't want to do this as they are not close. I will take another look tomorrow.

last thought, maybe they bought you a new one under the wrong part number for a different wheel.

good luck on your search.

Thanks for your help. I hope it can be sorted. I am concerned about it simply falling out whilst I am driving. Unlikely, but not impossible. I will update once I know more.
