Is it a big job to have the calipers painted? How much did it cost do you mind me asking?
Hello @Frankhy , the painting of the calipers alone was about 500euro. A big job... I have no idea, they needed my car for two days, of which one is to dry, so I don't think it's that big.

It depends if its a new car or not. If it's new then it's only a few hours.

I got the black rs spyders because I ordered a gts but just curious.
I asked my dealer about powder coating my brake calipers, they quoted me about 2-3k. I'm still thinking to go red but I thought it would be cheaper.

Definitely do not go through your dealer. They're just going to farm it off to someone else and jack up the price.

There are several guys on kijiji (yes, i know) who offer this service, but at the price, you may even want to consider paint instead of powder coat, because you'll ultimately return the leased vehicle anyway... you can paint it twice during ownership for less than powder coating.

Check out these guys on IG: @domenicsautoservice and @caliper_boss
They advertise caliper painting starting at $150 and can even put the decals on too for a bit extra.

My taycan 4S performance + was treated with N-XTC Quartz system coating 2 layers, 95 pores closed over complete carriage/body and doorlets, 1 additional layer of synthetic 4D overcoat for hydrofobic effect. Quartz system on all wheels and calipers and Rain repellent system on all windows.

It's dirty. I have yet to wash the GTS since taking delivery 4 days ago and have been driving it everywhere doing made-up errands for no good reason other than to drive the new car.

But the nice thing about Chalk is that it seems to hide dirty well, even with a better camera that's not an iPhone :)

Not going to wash it until the day before my appointment for PPF and ceramic coat later this week. They want it for 3 days. That's going be a long 3 days having to part with this car.

What do you guys think about "Light Strip with PORSCHE Logo in Glacier Blue" with Chalk exterior? Looks cool in picture but I haven't seen one in real life. Wondering if it's worth the extra $850.

The other option is "Light Strip with PORSCHE Logo in Black". I've actually seen this one in person (check out the pictures I posted earlier in this thread if you're interested) and found it quite underwhelming. You can barely see "PORSCHE". Definitely not for me.

I like the Glacier Blue and looks great on the Jet Black Metallic 4S that I picked up last week. I think it would also be great with Chalk.

I’ve had chalk and mission e wheels which I’ve had in gloss black. But I’ve then had door handles, window surrounds, sports pack inserts, wing mirror bases etc. etc. in gloss black too. Goes really well with the chalk/black interior.

The car got to the detailers mid December and had front end PPF kit and ceramic coating which takes 3 weeks to cure in winter, so the car can’t be washed. The crayon really shows the dirt but looks stunning when it’s clean.

At the moment, it has winter/wheels tyres which are a 20” Cross Turismo set because it was going to take weeks for the 20” Sport Turismo equivalents to arrive. The winter wheels are diamond cut and look stunning too but because they’re aero you can’t see the gloss black callipers. Really makes the car look different

Anyway. I’ve attached a photo of the car, just before it left the detailers and was still clean and an image off the configurator showing how it looked with its summer wheels.

I put my first deposit down in 2019!!! And it's finally here. First impressions:

PROS
  • Looks so much better and much lower in person.
  • Was worried Chalk would look too muddy, and too slabby on the ST body, but actually looks great with the glass roof to break up the top surface.
  • Had 2X Tesla model S previously... this car is just a completely different driving experience. 10X more precise. Just wow.
  • GTS wheels look perfect for the car.
  • (Look will be complete once I swap out turn signals for euro ones)
CONS
  • I ordered the GTS chalk interior mistakenly. I should have just gotten the Chalk seat belts. The other changes are so subtle, I don't think it's worth the money.
  • Puddle lights are ridiculously small. My wife's Audi SQ5 looks like a superman badge at night. The Porsche one looks like 12 point type on the ground
  • Back up camera is as bad as everyone says - in the fisheye view everything looks REALLY CLOSE like you're about to hit it, even though its 6 feet away. I like the normal view... but again, no guidelines (I wonder why they can't add that in software update)
  • Still sorting through some PCM issues - rear screens not getting wifi from car, so have to hotspot from my phone etc - on a related note, don't let your kids convince you to get rear screens.
  • Range says 200 at full charge... I'm guessing that improves in warmer weather to 233?
Overall - I LOVE love this car. And the fact that the body style is so rare in the US makes it that much more special. (My wife thinks I'm crazy for loving wagon's - I started with a salvaged teal-green Accord wagon after college, then a BMW 5 series wagon, then an Audi A4 wagon before going electric)

Congrats on the new car! Great to hear someone else immediately having their car transported to/from the detailer prior to taking formal delivery back at the dealer. I'm planning to do the same. I like the idea of making the car pristine/protected and eliminating any chance of rock chips prior to delivery, given the detailer is a couple hours away. When I (finally) take delivery, I just want to start enjoying it.

Thanks, 35% all the way around (no tint on windshield).
I'm going to get 70% (or 80%) on the windshield, but these pics helped to solidify 35% otherwise all around for me. Thanks!

I guess Chalk is just a wet putty after all per LA Times with some good info on the origins of the trend. Them people at Audi, kicked off the led daylight strips, and now solid earth colors. My Taycan on order color of choice is Ice Grey only because I already have the Cayenne in Chalk/Crayon, oh wait, Wet Putty, let's just call it what it is.
