Tell me please. I see loads of Threads around differing Charge Cards for Charging, I'm confused, why would you use charge cards, as opposed to just paying with a credit card ?

Are there discounts available over the advertised prices ?

You should have got a porsche charging card with your Taycan , this will give you discount at Ionity charger stations

Ahh , i get it :like: , you get a porsche charge card , they cheapest places to charge away from your home is Ionity , the most expensive would be porsche dealerships to charge, you can also use your app on your phone , all would be explained at your dealer don't worry

I have used some InstaVolt chargers using my credit card. A few failed / timed out when checking card details and each time held a £15 charge on my card despite the failures ( charges were cancelled days later). I enquired with InstaVolt and they sent me a card that works every time as my linked credit card has already been approved.

Okay, starting to make sense now, I've heard about the £15 charges and refunds also.
I think we all need a "ComparetheEVmeerkat" on this subject, if anyone fancies new business venture

Well to give you some context. When you get your Porsche Charging Service (PCS) card in the post about a week after you collect the car, you could charge at Ionity stations in the UK for 30p per unit.

On the other hand if you decided to ad hoc use your credit card to begin the charge at Ionity then it would cost you 74p per unit.

So it's about two and a half times as much to charge up, if you tap and pay with an ordinary credit card on its own. It's much the same with any other CPOs (charge point operators) / charging networks - they offer 'walk up pricing' which you can use your credit car to pay, with no membership or subscription.

However if you charge there often and want cheaper rates then your best buying a subscription or using an "aggregator" card facility like your PCS card (which comes for 'free' for 3 years with the car), or alternatively another scheme like Octopus Electroverse or dare I suggest it after the recent price rises, Elli.

Welcome to the world of EV charging!!

All good information thank you @simcity. I’m sure it will all make sense once I’m actually in the driving seat so to speak ????

Assuming you’ve set up the charging service with Porsche, plug and charge should still work at places like Ionity and Porsche themselves so giving you the discounted rate. Just need to ensure it’s selected on in the PCM in the car itself and it should be as simple as it sounds. Enjoy!

A mistake I made this week with the Porsche Charge Card - -I read 30p/kw at Porsche centres too, so while back at the dealer I topped up. Didn't realise that at Porsche stations it's 30p/kw PLUS 31p/min. That'll teach me to skim read :D

I hope you're learning that ANYTHING that comes out of a Porsche dealer is premium priced - even electrons ?
