I’ve narrowed it down to 5 Taycans

1)’2021 4S pretty loaded up with innoDrive lighting sport chrono 3+1 rear seat, great colour. Cons: black reg brakes (I really like those huge yellow calipers!) not a turbo model

2) 2021 TS loaded up. Cons, $60k more than I want to spend, no 3+1 rear seat. No Burmester. For c$200k come on and check the option box! This is my favourite, but it’s so expensive.

3) 2020 TS so so colour. Door ding (could paintless remove. Winter tires only? Strange. Domestic car dealer. “Affordable” price. Cons: no PSD. Why not? Pros: price and Burmester (!)

4) 2021 CT 4S nice cherry red,a but pricey. No innoDrive but ACC (so can add) pros PSD + 2+1 rear seating, 19.2KW AC charging (my home charger supports this)

*new find* 5) 2020 Turbo S 35k km, C160k
Decent options, not sure on PSD or 2+1 will find out this week. Those brakes! ?

not sure if vin decode is pulling up all options.

the wild range of options on these cars are driving me crazy.

1) is the sensible choice…for a Porsche ?

You can ignore or comment on this little aside:

Persisting with an unproductive effort, I know, and I’m almost over this but if range is better than 375km why doesn’t the display adjust for that and show me 450 or 480 on a 30° summer day? Sorry for this continued complaint. I can’t be the only one this annoys not to mention affects resale? If it’s only 375 I can live with it.

I’d suggest deciding on whether you need the Turbo, or if you can live with a 4S. That will cut down the field, and you’ll have an easier time deciding which one. (And it should be the cherry red CT, of course ?)

Choose the 4s and later down the track you can change your brakes.

also my range sits around 420-450. But my car is Rwd taycan with performance plus battery. Our current temperatures are below 30 degrees but it is definitely doable. When I purchased it three months ago the range was 320. Over the next 1200km it jumped to 400km+

Driving like an oldie eh? ?

Joking.

I usually get 408km while city driving. When doing long trips on highways, it eventually adjusts to 380km. Speed makes a huge difference. The Taycan is most efficient right after the gear upshift (which happens at 85km/h) so clearly intended to give max efficency on national roads (usually limited to 90km/h in most Europe).

I saw a fellow Portuguese showing off 550km range and Porsche Portugal announcing up to 600km range in city driving (don't think that's realistic unless you have people pushing the car along).

Easy choice — go with #1 if the price is right. The color of the calipers while aesthetically pleasing does nothing for the performance of a truly great automobile. The much higher price of the Turbo S is not justified as the 4S is essentially 90% of the Turbo S for much, much less money.

I know we keep coming back to Car number one. New it was 168 three years later they are asking 138. Porsche prices can never be explained?!

My friend that introduced me to Taycan would beg to disagree. I could stare at these brakes all day and walking up to the car it’s the second thing that catches my eye. The first are those beautiful headlights! ?Two different cars, but you can see what I mean.

Tell you what: print this photo/set it as your home screen, and get the other car.

I am only trying to help.

Yeah, the yellow calipers are nice to see as you walk up to the car, but the real joy comes from when you get behind the wheel — you’ll forget about those colored calipers in a nanosecond.

If buying used get a Turbo / S model, big depreciation already happened. With 4S you might wish to upgrade at some point.

Yes it’s possible on long trips, going though winding roads and highways. Traffic and cold weather does impact the range. I didn’t think it’s possible to drive past the range of 480km.

I have to try that one day but so far whenever I push that D lever, the devil seems to come out... Maybe that's what D stands for... Devil mode ?

If you really think PSD or Innodrive are important factors i suggest you spend a little more time with your research. There are many things people who disagree on this forum. The uselessness of PSD, and Innodrive is one of the few areas where there is bi-partisan consensus :)

Fair enough, and I suggest you look up the terms "options" and "personalization"
Next you'll be telling me how rediculus the 2+1 center seat is, and how needless the Burmester audio is! I'm waiting!?

It's funny the thing I love about Porsche, when buying new is the customization is out of this world. Is there anything more customizable than a new Porsche? Conversely, it's the same thing I hate about Porsche, very few pre-owned vehicles are optioned the way I (or my wife) would like them, they're always missing something nice that we'd like to have. She loves the ambient lighting but it's not a deal breaker. The Electric Sound is something we both love and I don't think I'd be happy if I didn't get that little option. When I say InnoDrive, I mean Lane Keeping Assist, the autopilot-like feature, that's what I 'm refering to. It's not great, but it's something I've enjoyed using on the few road trips I've been on with the Taycan.

Is the 19.2Kw charger a must have? No it's not, even though my garage is wired for it, and would enjoy it, good luck ever finding that on a used Taycan! That said, among the four Taycans I found, the '21 Dark Cherry Cross Turismo has the 19.2Kw option. No InnoDrive or LKA though, why would there be?? ? At least it can be added.

See the thing is you are not personalizing the car, you are trying to pick from 3 pre-configed cars and that already comes with a trade-off on what is important and what is not. If you were simply ticking the boxes building a car, I would not make this point, tick leather covered sun-visors whatever you like, of course. The point I was trying to make is PSD and Innodrive are among the top options that most people regret getting after the fact (my observation not scientific), the other two are probably range planner and PMCC+... 2+1 or BMeister they are different and there are many people who can't do without those.... anyways you seemed to be looking for opinions that's why i chimed in..

@Amelio if I’m not mistaken LKA was included - either standard option or as part of the Premium package (which most cars would have). If you have access to the car, it’s easy to check. It might have been disabled - I did so on mine within a few hours (lol, talk about different views to options).

I would agree, though, that as a second hand buyer you can’t always get what you want. So this is where a crisp classification of “needs” and “wants” is essential. (And the song leaves that part out..)
