At Wichita EA Station, two of the four chargers are working but the Taycan will only pull 4.3kw. Lucid and an i3 are seeing 120kw+ from the same chargers.

Any ideas why this is occurring? I’ve never had a fast charge issue before and charged 3 hours ago with no problems at an EA station in Oklahoma.

Shout out to Cody at Porsche Wichita who made a charger available for me in the mean time.

Thinking about renting a different car for the rest of the trip and leaving the Taycan at the Wichita Porsche dealer.

TIA for any help.

I have seen that once when plug’n charge was not working and in tried for 30min maybe preconditioning of the Battery was “lost” during that time? Or just one if the general Porsche + EA gremlins.

Sorry to hear ☹. Assuming the other cars have left, and you are using the same plug that they had used - otherwise there could be other explanations.

Hot battery? Are the fans running at full blast when charging? What was the starting SoC? Did it work fine at the dealer?

The car will limit (by current) how much power is delivered, and 4kW is very, very low - so it sounds like a one-off. I’d say try another EA location before giving up on the car for the trip.

Good luck!

4.3 or 43?

should have dealer check out fast charger

4.3 kW is more like an L2 AC charger - not a DCFast charger

need to reconfirm your data.

if you were really getting 4.3 kW from a fastDC charger that's an interesting result and honestly slower than FastDC charging ever gets.

Your statement confuses me and makes no sense…

was it this location?

I was at an EA charger recently that delivered a VERY low rate. ..switched to the 2nd cable on the same charger and got a very high rate.....any port in the storm!

Yes, that’s correct on all counts (4.3kw and the location). Clearly there’s a bigger issue. On the dealership’s 50kw DCFC it would stop and say charging error (no fault codes) in 1-2% increments. The battery never eclipsed 100° through the entire ordeal and the fans were definitely blowing. I’d guess there’s an issue with the vehicle’s on-board charger - it’s not the 19.2kw one in case anyone asks.

Three hours prior I peaked at 261kw on an OKC EA charger without any issues.

The story isn’t over yet, but for now I feel blessed that I landed at Walser Porsche - they went above and beyond to ensure I could continue on my drive and meet my family at our destination. Hopefully the Taycan is fixed quickly.

What Dave said. 4.3 from a DC fast charger?

Did you try the other stations when the other people left? I’ve gotten as low as 28 at a fast charger when others were getting 100 next to me, but it was the charger, not my car.

100%. The telltale sign is hearing the coolant flow through the cord. I tried a total of six cords/plugs across three chargers at this station and no luck. The coolant was flowing on 4/6.

What was your SoC on arrival? That matters a lot.

Well that certainly should have put you in the sweet spot!

Maybe your pump was a bum unit, and the other two weren't. It happens.
Yes, I’ve learned from the best about the charging strategy (you and other active forum members). It was a bum car in this case.

Did you hear all the fans spin up on the EA stall when it said it was initiating charging? If you charged OK at a different DC charger before, and at the Porsche dealer afterwards, I would suspect a problem with that EA location.

Before giving up on the Taycan and renting, I'd look for another HS Charger somewhere nearby and test it out. It may not be EA, but that's fine. See what your charge rate is at another charger.
