Interesting - our Model X had a full XPEL PPF treatment and you cannot see seams like this, as the PPF wraps around the edges. My Taycan goes in tomorrow from the same shop... will have to see how they do on this car.
Same here. My Aston has full PPF. The installer wrapped around the edges so there are no seams. Most of the car is in XPEL Ultimate. The hood is in the equivalent Suntek PPF because none of the other brands have self healing PPF that is wide enough to cover the hood of the Aston in one piece without any seams. It was not a one day job. Between the paint correction, full PPF and ceramic coating the installer had the car for 7 days.

Yes, my installer will have my car for almost 2 weeks! He'll be doing paint correction with the full Xpel and two ceramic coats (waiting a full day for the first coat to cure) with a lifetime guarantee (I can refresh at any time if I want). Plus he's going to do the mirrors in gloss black, along with running a gloss black strip from the A to C pillars to eliminate the 'notch' between the glass roof and body paint. Also he'll try to do the matte parts with gloss black - front splitter, side skirts (allowing the carbon fiber to show) and rear sections including the plate holder. Then of course he'll put in the blue film over the rear 'porsche' logo. He's also installing my Escort max ci 360 with a mirror readout, and 20% tint all around.

I will definitely post pics.

As an addition to the discussion of films/seams and protection, the car shown in my profile is a Cayman Interseries with the entire car wrapped in the John Weyer 908 Gulf livery that won the 1969 Targa Florio. The car has over 7,000 race/track miles and not one chip anywhere. There are no seams visible whatsoever on the car on the outside - the original color was white.

I don't suppose it's possible the installer used the wrong pattern? IIRC xpel has two pattern sets, one for the 4s and another for the turbo/turbo S.

Where did you hear that? I didn't think there were any differences in the body for the 3 different Taycan models.

Mine has XPEL Ultimate Plus full front, and no visible seams, all wrapped edges. I believe the installers can "tweak" the factory cut pattern and extend certain sections before cutting to allow for wrapped edges and no seams.

The front is slightly different on the 4s vs the Turbo/Turbo S, at the very least. I haven't the motivation to look at every kit part number on the xpel web site but I'm pretty sure that's where I saw that there were slight differences in the kits. There's also significant differences between the sport design and the standard design.

Please do post, and let us know if you got the gloss black (and smooth) on the plastic parts. I saw the post from UK where using PPS they got it perfect, but there are so few PPS shops in the US (and none local to me) that I’m really interested in what a non-PPS solution can do.

I just spent an hour with the owner at the shop - incredible place. They brought in someone to look at doing the matte surfaces, and they're just too textured to put a film on. Looking at the matte and carbon fiber, I actually like it better than putting gloss - I think it would distract from the CF. I'm also not going to do the 'blue strip' in the back since it won't look quite as clean as a complete Xpel wrap. As far as the 'roof strip' goes, they nixed that as well, because they said I would have an '...exposed seam that tends to collect a lot of dirt...'. There won't be any exposed seams on this car for that reason. They will be removing the mirrors to put a gloss black film on, and they'll be filling the 'notch' in the mirror with a gloss black silicone bead that they've done before, and looks very slick. They showed me a new car undergoing 'paint correction', and the guy said - 'see those scratches?'. I tried for a couple minutes, but couldn't see anything - ha ha. I'll be getting Xpel ultimate plus and two coats of ceramic - lifetime guarantee. It's going to take two weeks, including the radar/laser install, and I told them not to rush. I will definitely post pics.

What color is your car btw? Also are two coats of ceramic essentially double the price?

Carrera White, and yes, the two coats are 2x. You won't remember how much it cost to wrap/ceramic coat the car. You will remember how it looks...;)

Actually - just got the details and it's 4 coats plus a final topcoat of ceramic. About $2K.

Would you mind posting a picture of that spot on your car? I could use some ammo if I’m going to ask the detailer to fix it. My job wasn’t cheap either - $7500 for the Xpel alone, so if it can be done I will ask to fix.
I was quoted $6000 for full Xpel from my dealer. I am going to evaluate other installers as well.
