Does your Porsche Centre put the car in private mode when in for service?

Dropped off my 22 Taycan for some minor repairs and almost immediately the Porsche widget onSee my phone is displaying blanks. Turns out the dealer put the car in private mode.

Is this routine practice? Seems a little odd.

they do it because they want to disable you from having any ability to do anything with the car while they have it in the shop. they will even disconnect any cameras you may have installed.
it is not unusual

Soon, it will be called "in-service mode" or something similar so people don't freak out. Tesla went through the same path, initially taking the car offline while in service, then just adding a special "in service" mode. Service people don't wan you doing anything to the car while in service. You can cause some serious damage if you for example open the trunk when the car is somewhere where the trunk would hit on open, or if you decide to remote activate park assist and drive the car off a lift, or even honk the horn causing someone to be startled.

they will even disconnect any cameras you may have installed.

Tesla used to do that, but then they realized that that can cause issues like forgetting to reconnect them back, they don't want to power on, etc, so instead they just cover the cameras by putting a special cover on the windshield for dashcams, or some painter's tape.

And you might see them sitting about in deck chairs drinking coffee, wondering what they have to do to service an EV other than give it a wash and check the tyre pressures. And print invoice of course. Poor chaps don't even have anything to spray a bit of WD40 on now.
