Hi all, first time on this forum and the content looks great. I originally posted this on Rennlist, but looking forward to getting new perspectives and experiences.
Some of the coolest threads that I've read started at the beginning of a process. I guess this will be mine. I am located in Los Angeles. As some of you know, Southern California, primarily Los Angeles was a very unique and difficult place to be during Covid. I work in logistics so I saw first hand the craziness with supply chain. My story began 2 years ago when I first saw the Audi RS6 and fell in love with sport wagons. Little did I know that I was going to go down a long and difficult road over the last 24 months just to get an allocation, just not with Audi. It was unbelievable what dealerships were doing out here....marking up new European cars for $20-100k upcharge off MSRP for high performance vehicles. The frenzy was crazy here in So Cal. Mark ups were even in closer states like Nevada and AZ because they knew LA people would drive out there. In the end, I put a down payment on a car that had zero allocation a year ago to an Audi dealership in Atlanta. Luckily for me, they never came through on their allocations.
Along the way I ended up picking up a couple toys that introduced me to the build quality of Porsche. I used to be an all American type of guy (that includes Tesla as I've had 2 model S p100d's and 1 model x 100d). One day I was on Bring a Trailer and saw a mint, low mile, original 2005 silver 997.1. I bid on it...and won! When this 18 year old car came back to me I was amazed at the quality of the interior and finish all around. If Porsche can last 17 years and look brand spanking new...then what was I missing out on? I ended up selling my Tesla Model x (mainly because my kids would get sick from the instant torque and after cleaning up vomit a couple of times, i decided to switch). I ended up purchasing a 2019 Porsche Cayenne e hybrid and was blown away at the ride quality, speed and power, and just plain sensibleness of the mpg. This was 4 months ago. I still love the Audi rs6, but Porsche just started to take over my lust! Last week, a local dealer posted a black on black CT 4 Turismo and remembered that my love for a wagon was always there. I had never seen one before so I went to check it out. The drive blew me away, and the Porsche electric sound gave me the visceral feedback I missed, but knowing it was electric made me feel great as I have a long commute. win >win>win.
I was ready to make a deal and buy it on the spot. But here's where the games started. I walked out 2 times from the dealer because they wanted to mark it up $10k. I said to them that in this market with inflation who is going to pay this and its also the reason why we have inflation in this economy. California dealers really get a bad name for being greedy and not focusing on relationships. I sent there again, and they dropped it $1000. Frustrated, I went home the second time and found this forum. At first it was for advice to trade my Cayenne e hybrid, but that dealership low balled me. luckily I found an angel on the forum : @ssim (Can't thank you enough!!!) post and I PM'd him. He connected me same evening and connected me with his dealer in the east coast that doesn't play the mark up game. I was given the allocation the very next day, and with @ssim and his dealer I said f%$k it and built my dream build. Car should be on the line hopefully late March , early April, then make its way via cargo ship to PEC Los Angeles.
I definitely don't mind waiting. I makes the anticipation and yearning that much sweeter. Looking forward to updating you all with pics as the journey unfolds.
