It has been over 25 years since I last had a car that had external mirrors that misted up. I know that the mirrors have built-in demisters which are analogue to the rear window deicer with heater filaments. However on all my cars in the last two and a half decades, they never fogged up. I don’t know whether the heat was always on, or how they automatically switched on or off. This morning on a rainy and humid day in Madrid (unusual) and after entering two underground public parking garages, both exterior mirrors on our Taycan fogged up. I was confused because It was like time warp. Does anyone know whether they are turned on automatically or with the rear window deicer ?

Thanks,

Hola Roberto,
It was snowing here the other day and I had a little misting on the side view mirrors with a little snow accumulation.
This is all I found in the manual. Appears side view mirrors heat is on when rear window heat selected.
Odd they are not independent or automatic. My other vehicles have always been automatic based on OAT.

Thanks. Another anachronism in the Taycan. They sell it like it belongs to the future, yet some features are so 20th Century !

It is, however, consistent with other Porsche SUVs or cars with heated rear windows and easier to learn (if you drive another Porsche).

This can happen if you have been driving in a cold weather and rain. What was the outside temperature. If it is cold and you enter a warm and very humid underground car park both mirrors and windows can easily fog up. Happens frequently to me as well with any car.

I guess the Taycan would not switch on any demist in the mirrors when it gets cold automatically. The electrons are too valuable, so the driver needs to take that decision.

It was about 9°C and very humid for Madrid, over 95%, usually about 30 to 35%. I guess your explanation for saving electrons makes sense. Thanks.

You could try some anti-fog spray (you can buy them for spectacles).
Do so at your own risk though!

Also love the comment about having to turn the de-mister on by pressing a button being so 20th century.

I don't know if a solution has been found to this issue, or its a serious oversight by Porsche, but Ive had my Taycan Cross for 2 months now and this winter has been a pain. As the OP stated I haven't had this issue with wing mirrors fogging up since my smart car 8 year ago and I would expect much better from Porsche. It does say use the rear screen heater to defog them, but as I pre heat the car before I enter and all the other ice has melted around the car, it won't allow me again to turn on the rear screen heater, as it turns off automatically after a second. Could this be a fault needing software update? or am i going to have to resort to using my anti-fog from my swimming mask?? I can't be the only one with this issue. Thanks

Used to be on the Cayenne and Panamera (I think) that the heated mirrors and steering wheel switched on automatically at 3C or less but fast forward to the 'future' and we're back to manually switching on the heated rear window to also heat the mirrors. Progress...not!

I think a lot of cars have it on all the time and have for years, it is cheaper not to need a switch.
With an electric car all unnecessary heating may well be better avoided for range reasons. My plug in hybrid has it on only when the rear screen de-mister is on too.
