Hi all, long time admirer of Porsche but have never been able to afford / justify the maintenance costs / potential big bill factor of a 911 and the Boxster / Cayman always felt like a compromise.

Ready for my first foray into EV and having looked around the Taycan stands head and shoulders above all others for me looks wise. Coming from a 3.2 V6 Audi TT so counting on the savings on fuel to help make the man maths work.

I'd be keen to hear your thoughts on the below vehicle, feels keenly priced for an official Porsche used approved with the 2 years warranty included. I've made an enquiry and they've come back with a sensible PCP quote, is there any negotiation of the sale price these days?

https://www.sytner.co.uk/vehicle-details/3144da5a-865d-4c09-9117-78909f9a1b78

Any thoughts on the specification would be appreciated, will be used for 50ish miles a day (mostly motorway) commute five days a week & wife has a much bigger car for family duties so practicality not a challenge. Also have off road parking so charging at home should be fine.

I have my heart set on Frozen Blue which massively limits my options and if I'm honest would have preferred 5 seats and nicer wheels but neither a deal breaker - search parameters have been 4S / Turbo, sensible mileage, Frozen Blue, Porsche used approved for the warranty. Ideally no more than £55k - £60k / 700pm with £10 - £15k deposit but could put more in for the right car.

Thank you for taking the time to read my ramblings, hoping to join the fold in the near future!

It's a very spartan car, which is reflected in its price. I would not buy it whilst the colour is indeed beautiful. If you are budget constrained, look at private sales on autotrader, they have absolute bargains - I am sure it is possible to do car loan/pcp/whatever with a 3rd party. Some cars are still with a balance of manufacturing warranty, or covered with a Porsche extended warranty, or you can buy an extended warranty for very little.

But this blue car is a spartan as it gets, you won't feel 'premium' in it

Is it the only Taycan ever made that hasn't a single option ticked on it ?
it would have been... but they did tick the performance plus battery. otherwise, it would have been a clear winner of a contest of tightness

Thanks for the replies all, I didn't realise it was so poorly specced. Would be keen to understand which options you guys would class as being essential.

My thought process was I am coming from a 15 year old Audi so even the lowest spec would be a huge step up and I'm set on wanting the Frozen Blue colourway which limits my options!

I'd say buy it if they can demonstrate the 285 mile range and maybe ask for a £500 price reduction per mile under that.

I do love the colour though. The wheels are awful (imho) but there were some good looking mission e wheels advertised on here for not that much money a few weeks ago, so that's an option to fix those. Use the existing for winter tyres or whatever.

Make them throw in a longer warranty too - it's relatively cheap for them to do.

Things on my must have list:
Sports chrono.
150 kw dc charger (now standard on newer cars i think). I didn't get (doh).
Lane change assist (the little lights in the wing mirrors that show cars in the large blind spot, that are standard on most any other car). I didn't get (doh).
folding wing mirrors.

Can of worms opened…..

I think extended/full leather should be considered, you’ll be sat in that more than looking at the outside and it makes a big difference imo.

Wheels can be replaced and even the colour can be wrapped.

Sports chromo gets the mode dial on the steering wheel and I’d find it frustrating without that.

Then surround view which I think is named park assist and adaptive cruise if you’re planning on road tripping.

Personally I'd skip it - spec concerns as highlighted by others.

On the plus side this car has done really well in terms of depreciation (£92K new) primarily because it has only one mandatory factory option - PB+ which has value. £4K option.

Buyers market so be aggressive.

Options:

Leather
360 surround cameras
Panoramic roof
Power Steering Plus
Bose
14 way seats (includes electric adjustment of steering wheel etc)
Power fold mirrors

Standard PMC + charger is fine for home charging and PMCC is desirable.

Hook up to Ovo Charge Anytime or Octopus for 7p / kWh charging.

Happy hunting!

Some missing options can be addressed after market.
Power Steering Plus can be added as a Porsche Connect Store OTA update.
i resisted for a while but having driven a few long term loan cars with it I recently took the plunge.
If you like music BOSE is OK, but a good Car Audio specialist could make the standard system sound better than Bose.
If the wheel style isn’t what you prefer, they can be painted - e.g. Those on the car you’ve seen could be redone in satin grey or black for £5-600 or less, which anonymises the style. But if they are diamond cut it may not be be possible to return that finish. Personally I think frozen blue suits gloss black wheels.
But take your time, it is a buyers market, bear in mind that trade price is 40% of new after 3 years. Negotiate as hard as a dealer, use your head and be prepared to walk.
i use the 360 cameras everytime I park and have had those for about 6 years now, but few early cars have that option. You won’t miss what you’ve never had.
I’d say resist any urge to buy outside the Porsche network. Taycan’s are troublesome enough inside the Porsche network. Unless under 3 years old. After that a non Porsche dealer can’t transfer you any extended Porsche warranty.

Thanks again all for your valuable input, I've researched some of the options you guys have mentioned and can see now why some adverts list £20k+ of additional options specified!

The 19" Taycan S Aero wheels are really not to my liking so they would 100% have to go but beyond that, if I could get a discount on their list price I still think it could work for me, especially stepping up from an old Audi!

The dealership have tried rining & emailing several times over the last week giving the impression they are very keen to do a deal, any thoughts on a starting over to negotiate from / realistically what can I expect them to come down to? No experience of dealing with Porsche dealership before so just want to be realistic without being naive!

Kind Regards

Paul

Hey Paul, good luck with your search. Despite some of the other comments, if money is a bit tight then at the end of the day the one you've provided a link for remains a Porsche. For folks who've had a few, they need the extra bells and whistles I think to make it fit their idea of a special car but for first time buyers in to the brand at this price point, it's mainly the badge and how well it drives and handles (considering the weight). It does have the battery performance plus which is really the only essential item in this EV that would be difficult to live without.

Ultimately its personal choice, if you like it then go for it. One thing to be aware of is that battery replacement, in the event it is needed, is very expensive so I would strongly consider ensuring the car has a Porsche service history (it comes with a 8 year/100k mile battery warranty) and ideally an extended regular Porsche warranty.

As this is your first EV too, make sure you have a home charger, relying on the public network is far too stressful and best left for long trips. Saying that, it has got better recently, the latest MFG chargers on my regular routes are great, but for day to day, a home charger is essential.

One other point, prepare yourself for the cost of tyres, they are around £1300 for all 4 and last for me at least, about 15000 miles, the cost of servicing (its a bit of a rip off given there isn't a great deal to service and varies from dealer to dealer) and insurance costs. The latter can vary wildly.

Hi Paul, of course they are keen because they know no one will buy this car (without a discount). You just need to be mindful that it will be very difficult to get this car off your hands even if you drop the price a lot. Ask them for £10k off.

This is probably one of the most sound pieces of advice for anybody considering an EV of any make. Its a game changer and changes the way you use the car.

Understood guys, I have ample off road parking so getting a charger installed shouldn't be an issue.

My wife quite likes the VW ID Buzz and my employer does a salary sacrifice scheme with Octopus where they take the £ out of my gross salary pre tax. You do get ripped off but it works out favourably in terms of bringing down salary & insurance / maintenance is all included. Octopus also come out and install a home charger for free as part of the deal. The facelift ID Buzz should be available to order on the portal in the next few weeks so assume we would be able to use the home charger for both vehicles.
