This is the first winter with my Taycan 4s. (It's my daily and parked on the driveway, not garaged.)

How do you find your performs on a very cold day?

I have a set of winter wheels and tyres and they are performing exceptionally well on the slush, snow (only a tiny amount so far) and generally thoughout our cold and wet winter days.

When it's a bit frosty, so perhaps down to -1, the pre heating function is great. 15 mins is all it needs so I can have a de-misted warm car with a heated wheel. Perfect.
(After company tax, this was a key reason I switched to an EV.)

However, today was -4 at 07:30 and perhaps got to -8 during the night.
Even with 35 mins preheating, the door glass was frozen and wouldn't drop, making it hard to open the door and then impossible to properly close it.
Only after another 10 mins with the heating on max could I fully close the door. I had to set off with it partly open - not ideal.
Tomorrow I will do 1 hour pre heating.

For such an expensive car, couldn't they have developed a simple solution to overcome this issue?
Perhaps a heating element in the rubber door seal and / or in the door where the glass freezes to a component?

The cold weather also batters the battery. 35 mins pre heating and a 6 mile / 12 min drive used 12 kW!

How do people manage in colder countries such as the Canadian winter?

It doesn't get that cold in Oxfordshire and I only need about 15 minutes of pre-heating but I would imagine the one hour standard was established during cold testing.
I use the standard timer setting with the charge set at 80% and preheat on and let the car manage the system itself which it does well IME with the current draw not being extremely high unless needed.

Could you not have raised the cabin temperature a bit higher remotely. That is what I do in Norway when the temperature went to below -20C. I started With 22 C cabin and increased it a bit later to 25 C. Car heated very well and defrosted. I did not have ny problems with the doors or windows. Every bearing in the wheels etc was quite stiff when driving, but worked well.

Good suggestion about changing the remote cabin temp - it was set to 21.

Just tried to set a timer and the software is failing [yet again].
Checked the car and it has LTE, restarted my phone and checked I have 4g data, but the timer cannot be sent to the vehicle.

Hope it's a temporary glitch with Porsche's servers and once a tech's had a coffee it will be rebooted.

Yes that is a real challenge when the app does not work as it should. How is your coverage with the cellular network?

Porsche servers for some reason or other (mostly accountant driven?) is not very reliable. I have never had any problems with either BMW or Tesla to communicate with the car. Ooh yes there was one event where Tesla was down, but got a message later on to apologise for the lack of communication from the app

I had a strong 4g connection - good speedtest and BBC loaded quickly - and I was stood next to the car.
I check it again at lunchtime.

Did you look at the signal strength in the cars system? I take it that what said above refers to your cellphone?

But yeah the next issue is whether the Porsche servers are on line?

Have you tried putting a smear of Vaseline or silcone grease around the edges of the windows? This might ease them opening.

I've not tried it as I haven't had the problem, although I noticed the door handles struggled a bit to open the other day.

I guess you can set the timer function using the charge screen in the car.
I have not done this but have a loan Taycan at present whilst mine is in for service and I noticed it was ice free in the morning. It isn't my car so no point trying the app so I jumped in and found a screen showing there was a daily timer set for 8 am and 5 pm which I could disable from the screen in the car, so presumably one can be set locally rather than remotely too.
I have always set it on my car from the app though.

It was about -4 in Somerset this morning and there was a thick glaze of ice on the car and I had a similar-ish situation with the door glass. I wonder if last night it got warmer at some point, then re-froze as I also had big globs of ice on the front wings that didn't de-frost even after an hour of driving in the sun.

App now connecting :)

Ordered some WD40 silicone spray to apply to the seals.
Will increase the defrost time and temp.
Worst of the low temps [for now at least] will pass in a couple of days.

car drives fine, but I get these annoying collision warnings (I guess there was snow or ice on the sensors).

And that ?... I thought it was only a Tesla issue ?

Porsche says it's normal for all of their cars, as long as the dropplets of water are small and don't lump/gather together, and present in all of their cars. The lights have a small hole allowing for air circulation, which causes condense to form but also for it to dissapear faster.

If the water droplets get bigger and start gathering together, than it is not intended.

To be honest, never in my life had a car that doesn't have this... Are you all sure its not a rumor that some cars don't get this? ?

As for the collision warnings, just drive faster so the snow falls ?
