Indicated range vs actual range

Quick question. When I charge my car to 80% it typically shows 205 - 210 miles of range. As I run that down it goes way down, in the pics below you can see the actual range was 168 miles (130 actual + 38 range to empty) at 2.8 mi/kWh.

So the range is 80% of what the car thinks it is. Not understanding why; any input would be helpful.

With the screen that shows 2.8 kWh selected, if you press your right steering wheel knob if will come up with some settings that include the period being used for consumption (all time, since charge, etc). It's possible that your all time average consumption is 2.8 but you drove a bit more spiritedly over that last 130 miles which might not impact your all time average.

If so, try switching that consumption setting to something more recent.

You need to do a battery pack rebalance so your BMS resets its Consumption calculations and shows more realistic numbers. Also, highly recommend getting the OBD reader and get a reading on your battery cell health and SoH (State of Health) as you are runnning a 2021 Taycan.

@SoccerMan94043 - Thanks for the feedback. That is set to "since charged" so that is for that "tank" only.

@SergeyIndy - You helped me do that a couple of months ago and I came in at 89%. That translated into 77.6kWh. At 2.8 that would suggest a range of about 220 which feels about what I'm getting (168 miles on 80% charge). What I don't understand is why the car does not predict better given the SoH is read from the ECU (89) and it should be able to do the math from there.

Got you, then what you need is a rebalance. Let me know if you need guidance on the process that you can easily do yourself over a weekend. My last rebalance, increased by SoH from 86% to 91% and my Range reporting is much higher than before even if it is not realistic like 270 miles

Yes, that is correct. Make sure the car is fully undisturbed when sitting overnight, meaning no key close by, no app use. Technically, when it sits at near 0% or when at 100% it only needs a minimum of 6.5 hours per procedure, but overnight is the safest way. The charging needs to be home Level 2 and I set it to about 30Amp when charging from 0% to 100% as it does not need to be full 40Amp which is the max now.
