Hi all.
yesterday I took my Taycan MY22 to the PorscheCenter because homecharging worked fine on the leftport but not on the right port. I have the Porsche Wallbox set on 16 A (about 10-10,5 kW).
The guy tested extensively at a charging point (22kW) and in the end they both worked fine. Weird…

Just now I wanted to charge the battery after today’s drive and left and right give zero response. The socket doesn’t lock, the charger light stays off. And now the left port doesn’t even open anymore!! I fear the OBC is fried…

Tomorrow morning off to a DC charger, hope it works (based on what I rwad here it should)

Now, Monday we go on vacation with the Taycan to France. Can I go without stranding by using only DC charging stations? Or is it a high risk?
Any useful advice is welcome!

Besides this it was a fantastic first week, but this is a big big bummer of course :(

Make sure you have a proper holiday insurance and just go for it. As soon as you are on the way, you’ll get a replacement vehicle if something happens with the Taycan.
Happened twice to me already.

If DC charging works, you`ll be in the same situation as me last summer. The 22kW-OBC was fried, but DC charging worked. I made it from Frankfurt to Rome and back purely with DC charging which wasn`t always easy as in mid-Italy and below, there were not that many HPC chargers, but it worked out well. France is way better with the number of HPC chargers, so i would suggest you enjoy your holiday.

Update: before going to a DC station I gave it another try this morning. And guess what. She is charging here at home right now just fine!
even stranger; on the right side port that wasn’t working till now. Left side still not opening, gonna sort that out after vacation…. Don’t wanna jinx the good flow!

must be that gremlin that pops up occasionally in a lot of Taycans!

I have just had the 22kW obc replaced under warranty with an 11kW obc. AC charging would not work on both sides. It took several weeks to get a slot at the Porsche garage, so had to use DC charging for several week, Tesla and Gridserve. They did the work in one day. All seems ok now.

Which side is your DC port? Mine (UK) is on the left which you said wasn’t working.

my DC is on the right side.. where the first week the AC didn’t work. Luckily I can still open that port now!
i haven't used dc yet, tomorrow will be the first time :). (There is a lot of first times of course in the beginning!)

You’ll probably be disappointed the first time on DC charging rates until you get the hang of battery temperature /preconditioning and starting charge percentage. Also as you’re coming from the Netherlands beware long uphills which can drain the battery until you get to the top and recharge on the downhill.

Good heads-up! Never considered hills 😂
I assume the preconditioning is worked out in the navigation, we’re gonna find out. Luckily we are not in any hurry

I don’t understand what you mean with this?
It's not normal to have any kind of charging issues and it's not common either. The only exception is the 22kW OBC, but that just blows up in a spectacular fashion when it goes on the AC side.
Also if you already have issues it's not going to go away on it's own.

Preconditioning depends. Many find it crashes the Porsche navigation app every half hour or so. If it doesn’t then it will precondition as much as time and driving allows (about an hour). Otherwise don’t use Charge Planning but set the car to Sports+ about 40 minutes before you want to charge.

I use Google/Waze and transcribe the charging location from the Porsche charge planner and then switch the charge planner off but keep the Porsche nav in the speedometer screen for the map that shows the boundary of where I can get to on the current charge.

Ah. Clear.
i will keep an eye on it of course, hopefully we do not strand in France! Lol
We’ll see how it develops.

tonyR, thanks for your tips. I read about the troubles with the planner. So far so good it never crashed but I’ll back up the charging locations in my phone! Didn’t know about the sport+ setting, I’ll use that If necessary!
