Good lord this such a hot car. The entire philosophy, design, technology is awesome.

We've all seen it crush the Goodwood hill climb. Here is a long, informative video on the McMurtry Spéirling and the driver

Car looks amazing. I kept on cringing whenever the metal laced fingers and wrists were touching the body of the car. Hope it has ppf. :)

TG has a great video on the tech. I was initially surprised when they said the sucker fans were more efficient than a wing to generate downforce with minimal drag. But hearing that the fans generate 2 tons of downforce (at a standstill) I guess that makes sense.

This makes me excited for the future of EVs.

On the Top Gear track. Smashed the record set by an F1 car

It is dead easy, or at least much easier than aero, to get download with a fan.
On top of that fan force gives mega grip in slow corners, which is where a car spends more time, so the potential performance lap time gain from a fan is MUCH more than aero.
It is banned from racing for decades.

But the fan is strictly for the track?

I know nothing about this car but afaik it doesn't comply with any racing series and has just been a fun car for wealthy people to do track days in.
I meant the fan technology itself is only useful in track applications.

More grip is always useful but I suspect showering cars behind with road debris or sand blasting a pedestrian's legs would, at the very least, be considered impolite...

Surely those fans enable the Spéirling to double as a street cleaner? I wonder where it deposits the debris. ?
If you watch any of the videos you see it flying out of the back, like the Chaparral 2J and Brabham fan car before it.

BMW has there own fans:

BMW told us the impellers generate 1,000 kg (2,204 lbs) of static downforce. The five fans don’t create any drag, but need 50 kW to work. When the car is moving, the carbon fiber body’s active aero bits add another 200 kg (441 lbs).

Fascinating car. At the risk of adding yet another video link to this thread, there's some really interesting energy analysis in this one:
