Ok, so I'm trying to surprise (wifey) w/ a new car/grocery getter/baby buggy (and have a cool secondary for myself). I've built a few Taycan's and while I'm waiting to hear back from the Edmunds forums on RV's, here's a few questions for the hive mind:

1.) Is the 4S bump up in 0-60 worth the bump in price? Seems marginal, especially for the Mrs who rarely tests her car out, but since I'll drive (and have to ride in) it every now and again will it matter?
2.) To upgrade the leather or not to upgrade the leather. General consensus here and RL is to go w/ extended for an extra $4700. However, if I'm honest, I wish it covered more of the seats, looks kinda tacky outside of the base black IMHO. Thoughts?
3.) Rear Seat Entertainment. Two young kids. Daughter loves her iPad. Son is too young at present but would be old enough by the time the car would arrive next year. Buy another iPad for him or add RSE?
4.) Panoramic Roof w/ Variable Light Control - Looks cool. It's hot where we live. Getting the Panoramic roof either way, but aside from being pretty cool and MAYBE cooling the car in hot summers, is this worth the extra $3K?
5.) Adaptive Cruise Control vs. Porsche InnoDrive. We don't road trip that much w/ small kids. That's pure masochism. But when we do, me being tall and the wife being a terrible driver on the freeway, how much better is InnoDrive vs. ACC. Are either necessary?
6.) Bigger battery and onboard 150kw charger I've read getting the bigger battery only provides marginal gains due to the weight of the battery. Get one? Get both? Neither (A) or (B)? Both (A) and (B)?
7.) Seats. Good lord. I have massage, heat/ventilation and 18 way seats. I rarely use massage, but the ventilation helps in summer. Thoughts on seat options?

Any other suggestions and (constructive) criticism is certainly appreciated.

Cheers,

Having test driven a RWD and 4S, the difference is tangible and I think changes the character of the car for the better. I wasn't gunning it to 60 on the test drives either. You can feel the power around town. I also would have a hard time knowing everyone and their mother with an electric car could out accelerate my $100k+ Taycan.

2.) To upgrade the leather or not to upgrade the leather. General consensus here and RL is to go w/ extended for an extra $4700. However, if I'm honest, I wish it covered more of the seats, looks kinda tacky outside of the base black IMHO. Thoughts?
Went with Chalk...think it looks great. I've gotten a lot of compliments on the color. I do wish the leather covered more of the seat just because the fabric mixed in on the side could easily get stained but even with that I'd still opt for the extended leather.

3.) Rear Seat Entertainment. Two young kids. Daughter loves her iPad. Son is too young at present but would be old enough by the time the car would arrive next year. Buy another iPad for him or add RSE?
Can't comment....

4.) Panoramic Roof w/ Variable Light Control - Looks cool. It's hot where we live. Getting the Panoramic roof either way, but aside from being pretty cool and MAYBE cooling the car in hot summers, is this worth the extra $3K?

I thought I would regret not speccing this. Compared to a Model S I owned, I've found the normal pano roof is tinted enough where the amount of heat coming through the roof hasn't bothered me.

Definitely spec ACC at a minimum, even if you don't do a ton of highway driving. When you do it's a real help. I didn't spec Active Lane Keep& InnoDrive combo when I ordered figuring I'd add via FoD. The combo was ~1500 at the time I built my car. Ive since paid $950 for Active Lane Keep and would have gladly paid the extra 600 for InnoDrive though I honestly haven't found that feature *that* compelling.

6.) Bigger battery and onboard 150kw charger I've read getting the bigger battery only provides marginal gains due to the weight of the battery. Get one? Get both? Neither (A) or (B)? Both (A) and (B)?
I find the range to be just OK even with the bigger battery. I can't imagine having less range. I specked the 150kw charger because the cost was low and to keep options open. I'd get the battery for your own convenience and resale value.

7.) Seats. Good lord. I have massage, heat/ventilation and 18 way seats. I rarely use massage, but the ventilation helps in summer. Thoughts on seat options?
The 18-way look the best :) I wish they offered massage as an option on them. Definitely recommend the heating and ventilation.

Any other suggestions and (constructive) criticism is certainly appreciated.

1) not worth it in my opinion. I'd spec it with a model delete for my wife
2) I'd definitely upgrade the leather as the dash looks too cheap in my opinion with the base. You also get the back of the seats in leather
3) absolutely no need. It will be obsolete in a few months
4) No issue with the glass roof as far as heat is concerned. It also makes the car look WAY more spacious from the back seat. May want to think about it from durability POV though and IMHO the metal roof looks better from the outside with the metal.
5) I wouldn't bother with inodrive tbh. you can also add it later if you want via the software purchase
6) I'd get the bigger battery as it adds in all dimensions - better range, faster charging, and better performance. The onboard 150kw charger is for the low voltage(400v) charging. I haven't used it even once on my car in the past 2 yrs. The 50kw should be plenty for these cases. It doesn't impact the 800v charging which you get via EA
7) You cannot get massage AND 18way seats. You get the 14-way +massage or the 18way no massage. I tried both and prefer the 18way. Keep in mind that if you choose the 5-seat config, +18seats, you will get the 14-way seats for the back. Look at some pictures carefully online and you will notice the different seat construction front/back with the 5-seater. I'd advise you to get the 4-seat config since the middle is kinda useless anyway.

Other options to consider:
- racetex for visors, and mirror housing
- electrified charging flaps. These are a bit controversial, but what i like about them is that they close the vent from the front wheels toward the front doors. Without this option, the vent allows stones to spray the door and I'd rather not deal with that...
- I'd stay away from the CT cars until porsche officially admits to their issue with the glass roofs cracking there. Search the forum for some horror stories
- If you pick the missionE wheels, keep in mind that they are not actually white. They are slightly silver-ish. Best to see them in person before purchase. I had mine painted all black (high-gloss - not jet)
- Olea leather is really nice - may want to also check it out in-person to decide.

Massage seats were a surprise win, never would have spec’d it but was in the car i bought and love it,

I don’t notice the car being too hot with glass roof, and it pre cools before I get in…

I have the 4S and love it.
I personally like leather I didn’t need the nicest but having the mid range full leather was a must, I am glad I have it.

I don’t have kids small enough to use the rear entertainment setups any more, but iPad setup is almost certainly going to be more functional and easier to update over the long run.

the one option I wish I had (although wouldn’t have considered ordering new either ) was the passenger display.

my kids are almost always with me and so much of the car is focused on that screen there is a bit of back and forth for passenger wanting to mess with music or map, and me wanting the display doing something else … with an active passenger I think that display would be used a fair amount.
Good luck! And check out used there are some great deals!!!

1. All wheel drive variant is preferable so a 4 rather than 4S would work well for your use case.

2. Extended leather is worth it IMHO.

3. Skip VLC roof, standard Pano fine.

4. 14-wsy standard are just fine but note the absence of power adjusted steering column now.

5. RSE I'd skip

6. SCzc I'd skip.

7. PB+ is desirable.

8. 150kW DC booster is a no brainer for most

you want the 400V/150 kW charger so you are not stuck charging at 50 kw charger at Tesla Superchargers…everyone knows this.
