We have a 2022 4s Taycan which is actually our second. This car, however, usually makes a lot of noise when charging with the 40amp home unit. Clearly some fan turns on when I plug it in but this did not happen with the earlier car. It also does not happen all of the time. Comments? Normal?

Love the car.

You probably have some pebbles stuck in the fan housing in the front wheel wells. @ciaranob has a thread on here showing how he cleaned his out.

There are a ton of factors that can turn you cooling fans on when charging and at max. speed as discussed in many threads on the forum - if you're in Sport Pus Mode, if the car had been driven in a 'spirited' fashion and batt temps were particularly high, if the area you are charging in is experiencing particularly high heat (my garage these days in excess of 100F but have to say fans are not working harder when I AC charge) etc. etc.

So I'd suggest check off the obvious things that might affect when the cooling fans need to be especially active.

As @Hirschaj mentioned above, I (for a second time in a year) had roadway gravel enter my cooling fan shroud area (left side) - I know exactly where I picked it up, at a traffic light a mere 200m from my house where a truck spilled some on the road - and when we got out of the car after parking in the garage there was an horrendous sound from the fan but long story short(er), this noise entirely due to said gravel bits jamming the fan from spinning in it's shroud - removal fixed that problem.

I suspect though that your fans are simply trying to deal with excessive heat (for whatever reason) - might be a valid cause but flip side if not a dealership visit might be required - I would def video the fan noise and forward to your SA bef you visit though for a heads up to them.

Here is the thread re the gravel issue and a vid with sound to compare against:

Specific solution in that thread here:

It’s normal...provided that it sounds like fans and electrical noises.

Last Friday I charged at charger station near my home. It was around 10pm but 32C outside. The charger station was humming loud to keep temperatures withing spec and my car was humming along. I decided to put it into sport plus just as an experiment and boy did those fans pick up. The noise was incredible. I walked around the car and I could feel hot air being blowed out strongly above the wheels. It makes a huge difference.

If the fan makes noise at startup "without charging" it could definitely be gravel caught in the fan and should be checked by the Service Tech before damage is done to the car. This has happened to me, as well as others.
