One more time, do I need to maintain 12 volt battery long term storage?

I have a 2025 Taycan and will be storing it for 6 months in the US.
Do I need a trickle charger for the 12 volt battery? Will it hurt if I do use a trickle charger?
My previous 2022 battery died when stored. What a mess! Is this still a concern.?
I remember reading many threads about this but don’t remember any definitive answers

So I read that post and I still don’t know what to do. So many conflicting views.

Here is a safe solution that I tend to use myself: just unlock the frunk before you leave (so you can manually reach the frunk hook with your fingers to open it completely). Now have your main battery between 40 - 70% optimally when you leave. When you return after the 6 months and the 12 V battery happens to be drained you can just open the frunk and recharge the 12V battery without any tricks needed. You do need a 12V lithium ion battery charger of course.

Ps. I also have a theory that remotely enabling the climate precondition for, say, 15min, will also recharge the 12V battery and reset the counter. if you do this every 2 to 4 weeks you should also be good for a long time. This is a theory though based on what I've been able to measure but never really tested in the real world 😀

Pss. And if you leave for 6 months better make sure the space is critter free! And maybe get a nice indoor cover like this to keep most dust out (I have that one and it fits a Taycan perfectly).

I would ask someone to drive it a couple of times in a circle at month 2 and 4 that will help the tires too not develop flat spots. That's it!

I can share with you that in Taiwan, due to frequent business trips, my car has been parked since May until now (October). During that time, the main battery dropped from 90% to 60%, while the small battery remained healthy.
How do I know? Because I asked my family to start the car for at least 10 minutes every two weeks.
My car is MY2023.

That is not a good battery drain for what you did. I would be alarmed if that would happen to my MY2023. You need to get an OBD/CarScanner and check your cells.

Thanks for the suggestion! I have a PIWIS3, so I’ll test it out when I’m back in Taiwan.

Off-topic but I’m dealing with the 12V battery issue in a 2022 Taycan. Do you mind telling me how you solved this issue and how long the car wasn’t being used for this problem to occur please?

They started the car by jumping the 12 volt and towed to dealer. Not sure why I couldn’t just charge the old battery. I wasn’t able to test it. Took a couple days, but very annoying.

I didn't even know there were connections for the 12v battery. There weren't any for my Tesla. Either way, what does Porsche say? Just leave the car plugged in and you should be fine, no? Good luck.

It's pretty simple.
Uninstall the 12V battery.
It doesn't die from not being used, it dies from draining (and without getting charged).
No draining, no death.
It should hold it's charge for 6 months, no problem.

i have a call with the dealer this afternoon. He wants someone to drive it after 3 months, but my person will not be able to disconnect trickle charger before driving. Dealer offered to come and drive it. I’ll see if that works.

The Drivers Manual has care and charging instructions on the ‘‘12-volt‘’ and ‘’High-Voltage’’ Battery
You can access this inside the My Porsche app, or here:

https://manual.porsche.com/#/wpi/enter/pgroup/vhc:taycan

Use the search terms in italics inside the quotes - finding stuff in the manual isn’t straightforward.

Best to follow these instructions to maintain your warranty. Unusually, the HVB care instructions apply if the car is idle for over 2 weeks!

If your car is with a dealer for over 2 weeks (not unusual) you may need to point them at the manual. Mine had a care procedure for new stock but not for used stock or cars stored during service.
