Only getting 200 mile range on a charge

I've had my Turbo about 4.5 years (bought in September 2020). But it only has 26K miles. When new, the car got about 300 miles on a charge. Now it's only getting 200 miles. Is this normal? I don't pay much attention to range but lately I've been noticing how much more frequently I need to charge.

I never charge past 80%. I'm not sure what other behaviors I've done that might contribute to this range loss.

Several things may be going on. It is not unusual to get this type of range in car estimate on a Turbo when it is cold and you driving at highway speeds. Second, some of your cells may be going bad, so I would do a rebalance of the cells and then get a read of the cell voltages, temps, and state of charge to see if there are any outliers. The estimate uses the worst cell possible for calculations. So get the OBD scanner and free CarScanner app, then capture the data above and then we can see what's going on.

• Temperature leads to a significant reduction in range, with expectations of a 10% to 25% decrease during the winter season.
• The second factor is tire pressure, which should be checked more frequently during colder months. You can lose between 3 psi and 8 psi when temperatures drop to 32°F or below. If your Taycan is equipped with summer tires in temperatures below 40°F, your stopping distance will increase by factor 2 to 3. Summer tires harden in colder weather, resulting in less friction when making contact with the road. All-season tires or, preferably, winter tires are recommended since they maintain a softer composition in colder temperatures.
  • Note: Each Taycan is equipped differently, so check the driver door for recommended cold tire pressure.
• Here is what I am experiencing in the DMV area with regards to range, your experience in New England, Boston may be worse:
  • 2023 Taycan 4S: Winter range 195 to 185 miles (85%): Winter range 225 to 220 miles (100%)
  • 2023 Taycan 4S: Summer 220 to 205 miles (85%): Summer 260 to 240 miles (100%)

My tires are fine. I have winter tires with adequate pressure. I don't know where the DMV area is, but you are getting considerably better range than me. How many miles on your car? What battery capacity do you have? I have the "high performance" 97kwh battery.

Attached is my data from the OBD Scanner. The scanner requested that I enable optimized mode, resulting in the HIGH - Voltage System Enabled message being displayed while connected. The message cleared when I disconnected.

You sometimes get 200 miles on a FULL (100%) charge? And you have the high capacity battery?

The issue here for the OP is sudden change in range estimate by the car, so this is why reading cell health and measuring SoH is the first step to see if any cells are going bad.

@M3Taycan loaded all the right screens, so this is how we analyze this.

First, the message and a beep in the right tube is normal and indicates that OBD is properly connected and reading the data.

86.70kWh - Battery usable energy when new with 100% SoH (a known basis variable)

These calculations are intended to cross check SoH and calculate usable Battery Energy:
66.15kWh current battery energy / 84.51% SoC Display = 78.27kWh usable battery energy
78.27kWh usable battery energy / 86.70kWh = 90.28% calculated SoH vs. 90.68% reported <- good

90.68% SoH is typical after 10k miles
78.27kWh is usable battery energy after degradation - this is what the car has to use, so then for example for you to see a 200 mile in car range estimate, your consumption when driving would have to be showing near 39.xxkWh/100miles which is not unusual for driving in 32F/0C outdoor temps, to point OPs @Dave T attention to why reading these values to understand drastic drop in estimated range is helpful.

Cell Voltage graph looks very consistent so it looks good as we are looking for drastic drop of voltage in any cell, which would be obvious if some of the yellow lines would be say half of the others height.

Cells SoC graph also looks very consistent with 1 degree deviation is normal.

Cells Temp graph also looks good as you are not expecting it to be perfectly smooth if you captured it after driving, but it should be more consistent if the car stayed overnight in a somewhat constant ambient temperature.

Summary: All looks good!

I have a 2022 Turbo S Cross Turismo with about 22,000 miles. I have the same range issues that have developed in the last 3-6 months. Range at 100% was 298 at best. Now range at 100% is barely 200, usually in the 190's. The car has endless summer so that is not the issue. Currently at the Porsche dealer for recalls and to check the ZHV batteries. Interestingly, the service appointment required the car to be there for 3 weeks -- which by itself is absurd -- loaner or no loaner.

Anyone else with similar issues?
