My 2023 Taycan mobile charger is hooked up to the usual 220 wall fixture and recently has stopped charging way before gets to the 85% limit. I've had to unplug and replug twice today to get it up to that limit. At other times it just ignores the 85% and goes right up to 100%. Any ideas about how to deal with this erratic behavior? Or is it a faulty device?

Hi and welcome. Not enough information to troubleshoot this but I suggest you start with the sticky threads on charging and the Timers/Profiles video to see where that gets you.

Best on finding a solution.

For the stopping early, hot weather overheating the Taycan PMC+/PMCC perhaps? Have you had the APB6 recall done yet?

Then again, given it also overcharges sometimes, it might be just a messed up configuration between profiles and timers.

It's known to overheat and shut down. You can turn the charging speed down, or just get a better charger as many of us have.

I have experienced the same behavior as you in the last couple of months. Once it stopped short of the 85% and twice where it charged t0 100%.

I have no timers active and only 1 profile active. The active profile lists my home address as the location, 85% as the minimum charge and a preferred charging period of 12:00 am to 11:45 pm. I am using the Porsche charging cable but I'm about to replace that with a Tesla Universal Charger thanks to the recall.

I have no why it stopped short the one time, it could be an over heat but I doubt it as I've never had the issue on much hotter days. As to the 2 times it went to 100% I suspect that there is a bug in Porsches software where if it can't get to 85% before the cut off time in my case 11:45 pm and it cycles into the next day it starts to charge again and misses the 85% cut off. The majority of the time I plug my car in with plenty of time for it to charge to 85% before the cut off time. I usually check my charge level via the phone app and unplug my car before going to bed, my wife is leery of leaving it plugged in overnight. But for sure on one of those times I forgot to do that and it was plugged in overnight and I might have done that on the other as well.

Not a complete answer to your question but you are definitely not alone with this behavior.

Get a new charger. Mine was full of problems similar to yours for the 3 years that I had it, and Porsche will reimburse you for a new charger. All your charger problems will go away.

the North American PMC+/PMCC is problematic, expensive (if purchased separately), and not that much of a high quality product, and ill suited to it's stated purpose "mobile" EVSE…

myself and many others on the forum have come to the conclusion that we can love Porsche and our Taycans but admit that Porsche's North American EVSE offering is perhaps the worst EVSE product available in North America vs. competitive offerings from non-porsche EVSE vendors…

recommend you admit defeat, remember you bought the vehicle, not the EVSE, and just move on a high quality alternative for not that much money.

EVSE's are _NOT_ vendor/vehicle specific - virtually any/all EVSE's will charge your Taycan problem free…(well all except Porsche's attempt at an EVSE).

there are several non-Porsche mobile and wall mounted alternatives available for less than $1000 that will work reliably to provide AC power to your Taycan for all your charging needs.

move on, don't look back, spend a little bit of money and sleep well knowing your vehicle will charge while you sleep and wont' have problems while doing so.

there is 4+ years of experience here - you're not going to learn anything new - it's virtually an established fact that the Porsche EVSE product is not a good product and does not deserve a role in your daily EV life…

see one of many many many (100's or even 1000's?) postings for alternative EVSE's that all work way way way better than the Porsche offering.

start here if you want to be "caught up" on all that the community has learned about the Porsche EVSE product;

Let's just close this thread and refer everyone to what @daveo4EV just said. TLDR: Don't use the Porsche mobile charger. Buy a 3rd party EVSE for home charging like ChargePoint, Tesla, JuiceBox, etc. Love this car!
