Hi all. Newbie here. I have a Porsche Taycan Turbo and they did an overnight update last wednesday (22nd) and since then I cannot drive my car. On the app it shows as theft detected and when you get in it's not dead, but wont load the displays. The app has updated to a new security standard but the problem remains

Have had very little, infact nothing back from Porsche unless i ring them and ask. Car hasn't been collected and they have told me there is no fix, not yet at least. Their words were 'the update had killed the car'.

First world problem but currently in a clapped out merc courtesy car which is a little frustrating. I assume there are others in the same boat, have Porsche been any better and any recommendations? I feel it will just sit on my drive forever at this rate.

I've seen similar posts about servers down, but not one dedicated to dead cars so apologies if I'm duplicating a thread here.

thanks in advance

Same problem here.

My car simply won't start and I have the same message on the app. Worse still, my car is communicating with the security company every hour raising the theft alarm. Vodafone has turned off the alerts many times but it just keeps happening. :headbang:

The car must think it has been stolen so it must be the tracking software??? I suspect the car is shutting itself down as a security measure. If I am right, this is a high-risk feature in my opinion.

For those interested, I managed to start my car by disconnecting the auxiliary battery for a few seconds. This basically resets the car but the problem reoccurs when I turn it off again.

Going to take it to the garage tomorrow. I've also heard that there is no fix. Apparently, there has been a software update that affected all Porsche cars but the Taycan is now the only one with the problem.

Either way, I have no car to drive.

Hi Rob,

porsche sent a second engineer to my house yesterday and he managed to get it started so drove it to my local dealership where I bought it only 4 months ago.

I don't know how he did it as i was out. The app is still showing it has been stolen though. The garage have said they are waiting for a Taycan specialist that should be this week but I'm not holding my breath. Had a similar issue with an electric VW van and the specialists were hard to come by and i was without that for 6 weeks +.

If you can get it into a garage and leave it with them I would. They have told me Porsche would heavily compensate me but lets see what happens on that front.

OK, My car has just started normally. I have driven it, stopped, turned the engine off, and started it again. I couldn't do this yesterday.

I have made a couple of calls and I have it on good authority that Porsche rolled out a software update this weekend on the servers that control the security monitoring of the Porsche fleet. I am guessing here, but I suspect that they have rolled back the release.

Again this is pure speculation, but I suspect there was a bug that locked the car down if the alarm was triggered. I triggered the alarm on Saturday morning because I left my driver key in my kitchen. Four hours later, I couldn't start the car. I understand that hundreds of cars have been affected over the weekend with a similar issue.

Anyway, what I have learned is that if you disconnect the auxiliary battery, it re-sets the Taycan. You need a 10MM spanner to do it and it takes seconds. This is what the AA engineer did when they attended my call-out this weekend. I waited an hour for him to literally disconnect the battery and reconnect it. KEEP YOUR CAR UNLOCKED WHEN YOU DO IT!!!!!!!!! otherwise, the alarm will go off. This is what I did

What the Taycan really needs is a Hard reset button somewhere.

Anyway, I hope this helps and fingers crossed that my car will start tomorrow morning.

Well, at least we know that the car will likely be such a pain in the ass no one will dare steal it. :D

I have the same issue, started on Thursday 6th, unfortunately the AA man sent from Porsche Assist couldn’t get it to start even after disconnecting the battery.

He then told me it would need a crane recovery as you cannot tow EV’s, the office told him to expect collection on the 12th.

Got a call this morning to say they are sending a standard recovery truck because they don’t have any cranes available, I did explain to the nice lady that I don’t think that would work. When the AA man arrived he just called the office and told them he cannot move it.

Now waiting on a specialist trunk to collect the car.

Fingers crossed once the car gets to Porsche Preston they can apply an update and I get my car back.

I have the same issue, car is locked and I am not able to open it.

Have been away for 3 weeks, I got a call from Vodafone about two weeks ago to say theft detection. I informed them, as far as I knew car was on drive parked securely, but perhaps someone has done ,me a favour and nicked it , if they can get it to start, and it doesn’t need a third heater, or inventor , new port doors, fourth roof and they can actually get some range out of it !!

Let’s see how long it takes them to collect it?

I collected my car yesterday, 24 days later. Apparently was a server problem. Still affecting cars but they had said it wasn't only taycans. A few 911s and Cayennes were also assistant in stock.

waiting to see what Porsche say to my complaint. the first communication i had from my dealership was the day after my complaint. Really poor imo

24 days later!!! That’s completely unacceptable for a silent update gone bad.

My business partner picked his car up last week from our local dealership after a 4 week wait. It was one story after another but in the end the dealership admitted it was a software bug relating to the theft detection system.

What a joke.

@Porsche, you need to head hunt some software engineers from Tesla.

So I collected my car on Saturday and today Porsche GB rang me. I couldn't take the call as I was with a customer but have received an email offering £500 as compensation.

Not sure what anyone else thinks, but for a car costing nearly £1500 a month, pro rata thats £1175 I've paid for a car i couldn't have. £500 isn't really compensation in my eyes but happy to hear what others say?
