It does explain more why you American are obese ?
If you were to survey the food offerings at a typical American highway rest stop you would think that the entire evolutionary history of the species has been a struggle against starvation.
Oh wait, it actually has been.
Now conquered by the most spectacularly efficient caloric delivery system.

At my daughter's small parochial elementary school, at pick-up time, all the parents would line up in a queue of about two dozen cars, stretch out onto the adjacent street.
I would instead park at the edge of the lot, then walk ~100' (note: feet, not meters) to pick up our daughter, thereby skipping the entire line, at the mere expense of somewhat approximating brief aerobic exercise and being exposed to the elements.

re: National diets

I've just come back from England, and I was genuinely surprised by the difficulty of getting any side dish other than deep-fried chips or seeing a man enjoying a meal without a pint of beer! ??
Through making thoughtful substitutions and keeping up with workouts at the hotel, we managed to prevent any significant increase in weight. Curiously, someone did mention that the UK isn't widely known for its health-conscious food choices; however, we navigated quite well during our stay there.

It does explain more why you American are obese ?

This is exactly why we Americans – or more precisely, in this context, ‘mericans – rebelled against the monarch King Louis XIV (or was it the XVI?): to exercise our FREEDOM to drive long interrupted distances, measured in MILES (i.e., not those commie kilometers that were foisted on me and my unsuspecting elementary school classmates before the next presidential administration stopped that plot cold in its cm-measured tracks) without some secretive death panel (“expert advisors to the Highway Code”?!?) tell me how long I should drive without stopping.

Some choice signage reflecting the regional political climate scattered about in the pictures for these recent Strava bike rides:

The thing is... your freedom ends where the next one's start... freedom to drive long interrupted distances ends when the other's freedom to arrive home without being ran over by a semi sleeping or worn out driver starts.

^ Sure, as an economist, I can go on at great length on the high cost our nation pays for its reliance on private transportation for both people & cargo -- and its inverse underfunding of rail transit -- in terms of deaths, injuries, environmental degradation, etc. Plus plain-old dollar cost. But as an American, I am compelled to invoke, FREEDOM IS NEVER FREE!

I’ve done 5-1/2 hours straight in a GT4 with carbon buckets without a problem. Also did SF to Dallas alone in 24 hours straight. Stopped for restroom every 4-5 hours. No issues. Think I averaged north of 100 mph crossing AZ in the middle of the night. If I had been fatigued, I would have pulled off.

Um, 220 miles at “30+mpg” is just over 7 gallons.
I think you need to rethink that one.
I think you didn't understand me...my normal driving in Houston is 220 mi between full and gas-light (about 14 gal) - that's 15 mpg (turbo breaths, turbo drinks). The only times I did better than this were on long road trips, where I would normally see close to 30 mpg (driving to New Orleans). My total range on these trips was well over 400 miles (turbo not breathing, turbo not drinking).

Hope that clarifies things.

Apologies for the hubris of linking to one of my own dramatic posts, but this is my opinion of range banter.
