For anyone following or who has a similar issue in the future.. I replaced the NEMA plug with the expensive one (although my original one wasn't super cheap, I think $20?).

After that, I reset the porsche charger by pressing the checkmark icon (that doesn't seem like a button) for a few seconds.

The instructions for this were in the manual:

Good to know about the reset procedure. The NEMA outlet I bought was $80 after the sale discount and it looks very solid as compared to the $10 one I looked at. It’s only used as a backup to my hardwired Tesla charger but I still don’t want to take a chance.

glad the unit reset - and we have a definatitive "root cause" with the failed NEMA socket - so we know "why" it was all red…

while it sucks to have problems - I prefer problems with clear explanations vs. problems that "just happen" for no apparent reasons.

sorry for your troubles, but hopeful and optimistic we have the problem under control now.

Taking advantage of the discussion. I am looking to upgrade my outlet. I used the Porsche EVSE for a year. No issues with it but knowing I eventually would have issues, preparing for my wife getting an EV and my utility giving a $500 rebate, I installed a Chargepoint. Now that we are going to be doing double duty on the outlet I am also going to upgrade that.

I am going with Bryant (same company as Hubbell but much cheaper), buying from Grainger.

I found the outlet and face plate. Website recommended this electrical box. Is this big enough?

Thanks

Looks fine. To note, they are like $3-5 in a hardware store. $10 shipped from Amazon (for a well reviewed one):
