Newbie question here. I'm struggling to see how to select charge points on a journey. I've searched the forum and there is lots of info that nearly covers the questions but I am missing a few things.

Firstly, how do I know if the battery is preconditioning? Is there a notification or icon showing anywhere?

Next, I understand you cant add your chosen charging point to a route – you are just given the ones the PCM recommends and I see two ways to get round this – but struggling with them both. For example, I'm on a 300 mile trip and want to stop at a charger at 150 miles.

1) I can forget the whole route and just plan the route to the charger at 150 miles. In Navigation therefore, I enter a location into 'Search' where the charger is and then press the '…' button and select chargers nearby. I then click on the charger.....but nothing seems to happen. The PCM does not accept the route to that charger. It will accept the location you entered but it doesn't seem to know it is a charger, so no preheat. How do you get it to accept you are going to a charger?

2) An alternative is that in Navigation when it is expecting a 'Search' input, you tap the charger icon and it lists the nearby chargers. Unfortunately, I want the charger 150 miles away. Is there any way to list the charger you want? I have done this on closer chargers and it has accepted the destination as a charger – and I assume has started to precondition but has it? Hence my first question at the top. This method should work as I drive towards the charger as it will be easier to find at 20 miles away – but surely it is easier than that. What am I missing?

no icon or notification: you’ll just notice that the temperature of the battery increases when you get close (around 20mi) to the charging point.
1) PCM should know there is a charger there. If it doesn’t (too recent ?) alternative solution is to find one nearby (preferably before), set it as a charging point… but drive to the one you know (but not in the database)
2) other possibility would be to play with the % at destination in Navigation. Assuming you need 50% of the battery for these last 150 miles, if you set this % slightly above 50%, Navigation would try to find a charger close to 150 miles from destination.
Not very user-friendly i admit…

I have owned my Taycan for three months and generally found selecting chargers en route works ok in the nav app. However I have a few questions: Where can I find the battery temperature? Can you preheat the battery manually whilst driving? What is the optimum battery temp for charging? If set my route in nav then zoom out to see charging points along the way and select one as a way point, does the Taycan automatically preheat the battery and if so how can I tell? Any help would be appreciated.

Preconditioning / preheat only works when a DC EVSE >= 50 KW is selected either as a destination or stopover in NAV.

AC never preheats.

No visual representation other than the battery temp will rise to around 32C on arrival assuming there is sufficient time to preheat.

Any EVSE (meeting the above conditions) available from the list in NAV is selected either from a Google search or filtered search of EVSEs in NAV.

Drive mode Sport Plus will raise the battery temp but also use more energy in the process.

Spirited driving will raise the temp.

Preheating isn't always necessary - 50 KW charging generally doesn't require it and the car should draw the maximum available.

Driving 150 miles before charging will logically lead to a warm battery and therefore little need to preheat.

Battery temp can be added from the PCM vehicle menu (displays) to the information listed & displayed in the right hand tube of the instrument cluster . Scroll to Information to see these values.

See my comments above on preheating but setting a destination or stopover which is an EVSE is key.

If the stopover or waypoint is a DC EVSE>= 50 KW then 'yes' preheat will feature as needed if time / distance allow.

Adrian,
thanks for your input. Yes I understand most of your reply and gettting to understand most of the other stuff, ie the questions from Chas1 above.

I guess the bit I am struggling with is your quote above and understanding if I have selected a an EVSE properly. The problem was that when I tried it a few days ago, I did not know if I had selected an EVSE as the car didnt tell me that the battery would be preconditioned.
The example was trying to go to the Ionity charger near Stafford. We are down at Rugby at the moment. So in Navigation I typed in Ionity Stafford (350KW so meets the requirements) and it selected where the charger is ie Spitfire way. I selected it and told the car to go there - but there was no indication it had selected it as a charging site or that preconditioning would be selected as I got there.
I then canceled the navigation and tried again with the same location. Before accepting the route, I hit the '...' and selected 'chargers near here' and then selected the ionity charger but there was no 'go to' button to press, just a back arrow to go back to the original location.

I then tried it a different way, in Navigation I pressed the charging icon and it listed the nearby chargers. I wanted to get to Ionity Stafford which will take ages to scroll through to get to it as it is 90 miles away. I guess I could do this when I am 20 miles away and it will be easier to find, but that's a faff.

If you go to the bit in bold above - "I selected it and told the car to go there" - did the car know that was a charger so will have set the preconditioner up?

thanks again for the input.

There is no indication that preheat will occur so as long as you select an appropriate EVSE as a destination or stopover then you can be assured preheat will occur (if time / distance permits optimum preheat). Check also that PIRM is active - this may influence things a little. Stopover times for charging are also calculated for you automatically to minimise wait time

Keep an eye on your battery temp as it will increase quite quickly to 32C as you approach the selected EVSE.

Dont expect a dramatic increase in charging speed if preheat isn't possible. The first 5 mins at an EVSE 150KW or higher will result in rapid preheat. That said more advantageous in winter than milder or summer ambient temps.

Plan yor journey and stopover via My Porsche app - easier.. and add any Ionity to your favourites.

Personally, I never bother with pregeqt.
