Porsche Taycan the Blue Meanie Taycan GTS Blue Meani

Some thoughts after a few weeks of ownership:
1. the HUD is indispensable. It really is well done. However the Porsche style of having a yellow underline remain on the 'tube' or display that you interact with is annoying in the hud, so for example if you answer a phone call or browse phonebook in the hud the yellow bar remains until you press that button on the wheel to move it to the next tube. My suggestion to Porsche is to time out your yellow menu and make it go away entirely, not just the two stage full yellow with timeout followed by dashed yellow forever. I understand the dashed yellow provides secondary menu controls but it should still time out and go away.
2. The Chrono clock is not as annoying as I worried. I do think putting an OLED display there and letting us set any kind of control up there such as G force would be the future. But having said that, it's not in my way or noticeable really.
3. It's weird that CarPlay seems to replace PCM integration... for example I cannot manage phone calls in the HUD if I am using CarPlay. Also the CarPlay integration is kind of bad. If I am in a BMW using CarPlay, there is integration everywhere including maps. Why don't they do that?
4. I got the RAS option and think, like the HUD, you should get it. The wheels in the rear do not move very much but it makes a huge difference. I have not had any difficulties parking in tight places with RAS... I know I have seen some threads about that but not sure I understand the concerns after having used it so much now.
5. I wish the damn car would start up in individual mode.
6. I wish there was more room for my left foot to be more ... to the left. Given the seating position Id like more wider foot area. Its not bad though, just not as roomy as my BMW was.
7. The lack of buttons on the AC area is not as bad as I had worried. I don't mind the UI that much other than the lackluster CarPlay integration. I do think there is some wasted space in the lower display for that trackpad that absolutely nobody uses unless they are spelling out letters for the map addresses? Maybe they should rethink this space and provide something like music.
8. So. what did I do with my diamond favorites. I do think they should have added two favorites on the wheel instead of a silly regen button. But having said that the one on the wheel is definitely next track. The one on the dash thought I had planned for homelink but once I programmed homelink I noticed the button appears on the PCM once you drive up to the house. Nice. So that button became sports sound toggle.
9. I defaulted sports sound to on but now just leave it off. It's a lot of fun at first but if you are going for a drive longer than an hour at a sustained speed you kind of want it off.
10. I got the gray leather interior with Neptune blue interior accents. Much better wheel than the felt whateveritscalled alcantera?. The gray and Neptune blue go well together and we like the look of the Neptune blue interior accent touches.
11. A few interior options I got: AC seating and (along with the thermal glass that comes with the GTS) thermal transparent film on the windows. Given I live in a hot region as you can tell by the photo this car amazingly cools in less than 10 minutes and its never unbearable even if its been sitting in the Florida sun all day. I don't know how much of this is the extra film, the GTS thermal glass, or the AC seats but this car is nice in Florida. Note too that I have a glass roof with no roof screen or roof film. Just stock glass roof. Not a single complaint about that even in Florida.
12. A bit about comfort access. I do like that the car unlocks as you walk up to it, now why can it not lock the car as you walk away? I didn't see that option but doesn't it seem obvious? Instead I fumble trying to see the little indent on the handles.

I agree with all of these , one of the biggest thing I miss about the Tesla is the ability to NOT have a key - I love this blue, I had a hard time deciding , I went with the storm trooper look ?‍♂

I love the colour.

I also live in FL and I don’t have the thermal glass but I have a sunroof but I have no complains. I had some big concerns about it. I tinted all windows (legally) and I added a transparent film on the windshield. I feel the difference.

I agree on the car play integration, my Former VW Tiguan hada Better integrations, like the maps. I agree also on the middle screen. That trackpad is useless.

I also find it annoying I had to use my shortcut button for next track

You color combo looks great. Neptune was my favorite but decided to go monochrome in the end.
Your points are all valid. I use empty track pad space to adjust volume - two finger swipe up or down motion. My shortcut options are Sport Sound on wheel and HomeLink on the Instrument cluster, but I programmed it to one door and no GPS location so the door just opens/closes without any prompts on the PCM after the shortcut is pressed. I listen to XM and prefer to switch stations by pressing PCM screen, but I understand that next button on the wheel should be standard.

  1. Glad I’m not the only HUD lover! And glad I’m not the only one somewhat annoyed by how at least one of the four display areas always needs to be activated in yellow.
  2. This my second VAG vehicle with the oddity of an analog clock. When I’ve been in the car with everything totally off and silent, the second-hand ticking is yet another oddity. But, just a minor oddity.
  3. I’ve had the equivalent of the weird CarPlay vs PCM battle in an Audi and a BMW. So, still weird, but not just Porsche.
  4. RAS, yes, amazing how such a large vehicle is delightfully maneuverable at low speeds in tight quarters.
  5. Hmm, I always prefer to start in Normal, then switch into Individual once I’m on a highway.
  6. I’m not noticing the lack of room for my left foot.
  7. I’d already capitulated to lack of HVAC buttons in Audi and BMW, so this was just more of the same for me, and it works reasonably well (even if totally differently than our Audi and BMW). And glad I’m not the only one baffled by the wasted space in the lower display! I spent some time reading the manual to try to figure out how to use it, but I sure can’t find anything of interest to me.
  8. Agreed on wheel button for next track.
  9. My used 4CT does not have sport sound. Our i4 M50 does. I turned it off partway during the drive homefrom taking delivery, and have never turned it back on. My motor whine on the Taycan is more noticeable than on the i4, but I actually like that sound!
  10. Although usually I find interior color accents silly, I have to admit that yours look GREAT!
  11. Once I experienced ventilated seats on a prior VAG vehicle, there was no going back! (Our summers up in New England can reach almost Florida discomfort.)
  12. My only complaint about locking up the car is that sometimes after touching the driver’s door, I depart the car by circling around a bit too close to the other side, and thereby unintentionally unlock the car. But that’s a minor quibble. I do though love how the door handles extent upon my arrival – I feel like the car is so happy to see me! I do though wish the Taycan could be driven via either my phone or a key card -- that saves valuable ounces for backcountry skiing and ski mountaineering!

My comfort accès only opens the doors when I touch the door handle. Maybe this is a euro thing. And I love my GTS RaceTex interior goes so well with Neptune. Wouldn’t have leather in a GTS.

With my 4S, doors open when approaching (1 meter or so), no need to touch the handle.

Stunning video. Great work. Neptune Blue and Ice Grey are my favorite Taycan colors.

Did you take off the "S" rear designation and paint it RED? Very nice!

agree with most of that but I really dislike HUD - tried it on various cars but not for me.
On the comfort access. Would be good if it locked for sure. My gripe is that you can lock the car and the b thing opens up again unless you run off!

You may wish to try 'expanded comfort access'.

Great write up, thank you for your post. I had reservations about the "all-digital-HVAC" controls...
