I think I want to get a spare 25 foot cord for my "Charger Connect". I asked the parts dept at my dealer about it, and he said that it would cost $928. Yowzah! When I expressed my surprise, the parts guy said "Well it's 25 feet long". Still... Seems like a crazy price. Welcome to Porsche ownership, I know...

For example, look at this - basically the same thing, for $165:

https://www.amazon.com/Conntek-1545...ocphy=9001931&hvtargid=pla-570103808383&psc=1

Anyway, I'm wondering if there are cheaper alternatives. Could there be an aftermarket cable? Or even an entire charger (EVSE), that's cheaper than that? I don't envision using it often at all, but I'd like to mount my cable in the garage in a fairly permanent way, thus the need for a spare.

Yes, plenty of EVSEs are cheaper than $928. Anything with standard J1772 connector will work. I plan on continuing to use the ChargePoint 32A unit that's been in my garage for years.

What a rip off. I cannot even reach from my outlet to the front of the car with the short cord that is included with the car. I have to back the car in the garage... ugh.

The 25 foot cable was a free option when you ordered the car. Sounds like you got the 6 foot cable? Maybe you could get your dealer to swap the 6 foot cable for a 25 foot one.

Regarding spare EVSEs, a quick search on Amazon found quite a few ones under $200, such as this:

https://www.amazon.com/Zencar-100-2...9Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

Looks like that one also has the option of getting spare plugs for it. Maybe I should go that route.

Buy a J-1772 - 32 amp version that is mobile and light and keep it in the frunk for mobile road warrior usage…way way way cheaper than $925.

this is pretty extensively discussed here

https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/threads/ev-roadwarrior-adapters-“kit”.1364/

I believe the wisdom of the crowd at this point is that Porsche's PMCC is over priced, overly complex, and not that great of an EVSE all things considered - there are better 100% compatible choices -and if it wasn't included/required as part of the purchase most people would be better off with a non-Porsche alternative.

I just bought these two items to make my own extension/adapter cord. Its even cheaper. This lets me plug in my 6-50 pinned charger directly into a 14-50 socket (without an adapter) and leave the charger a little closer to the car:

6-50 Cable (25 ft, 50A, $47)

14-50 Plug (50A, $23)

I just lopped off the original 6-50 plug and replaced it with the 14-50 Plug (Leaving the Neutral Pin Unconnected). The cable now serves as both a 25 foot extension AND an adapter...

:)

Not sure I’m following. Don’t I still need the cable that goes between the charger and the car? That’s what I’m trying to get a spare for.

Between the charger and the car? That's actually part of the charger. Why would you need to replace that cable? Is your charger broken?

Its probably cheaper to buy the whole charger than try to get the cable as a part from Porsche. A far better and much cheaper solution would be to simply buy a new aftermarket charger.

Am I missing something?

yes - he got the version of the charger with the 6 ft cord from the charger to the vehicle - rather than the $0 25 foot cord - the spare part for this cord from porsche is $925…

it's simply cheaper and better to simply buy an entire non-Porsche 40 amp charger.

6Ft on the "wall side" or 6ft on the car cable?

EDIT: Oops, got it! Thats unfortunate... Who would even make a charger with such a short cable? Thats crazy!

from the EVSE to the car - the standard unless you request the 25ft version is 6 foot cord from the charger to the vehicle (the car cable).
