Hey all,

I've seen this error when trying to use the Spotify app several times lately:
Porsche Taycan All the Spotify errors... spotify_another_device_playing_error

"Another device is trying to play music. Press Play to continue playback." ...and nothing.

I swear, NO other device is trying to play music, and Spotify is NOT running on any of my other devices. Yet, I still get this message fairly often. And when I press the play button to continue playback, as instructed, it does NOT continue playback. I've tried switching to FM radio for a moment before coming back to Spotify to try again multiple times, no dice. Absolutely maddening.

Is anybody else getting this? Anybody know of a fix, or a way to reset/restart the audio/Spotify stuff? I get all psyched for a nice, fun drive with my tunes, only to end up swearing at the car in silence. ? ?

Many thanks in advance!

Brian

ps- My car is a 2023 GTS ST, production date 09/22.

Did you ever fix it?
Nine does this all the time . when a Spotify does work it spends most of its time just saying loading It's totally crap.

Mine has recently started doing this (when I wasn’t trying to play Spotify) - although I haven’t used Spotify in the car for a while then did so a couple of times recently. No idea why though

Last couple times I drove the car, Spotify was fine - and I didn't do anything any differently from before. ?‍♂

Welp, Spotify worked for a few drives, now I get this:
Porsche Taycan All the Spotify errors... Spotify_no_license_availabl

"There is currently no valid license available."

DAFUQ? So I go into the Spotify settings to see if it lost my Spotify login/credentials or something. New error in there:
Porsche Taycan All the Spotify errors... Spotify_login_not_possibl

"Login not currently possible."
"Error code 3497: Unable to retrieve QR code. Please try again later."

Joy of joys. If anyone's got ideas, I'm all ears. Many thanks in advance.

Porsche has some server errors, all internet-based apps in your Taycan are broken at the moment

Oh, great! ;) I guess that explains the weather app also not loading (but I don't care quite as much about that one).

Thanks for the info.

Ok have you heard of this thing called CarPlay that bypasses all that and actually works 100%. And doesn't depend on Porsche servers? :)

Another "Taycan gonna Taycan" horrendously bad infotainment experience the other day.

Podcast actually started playing when requested - huzzah! - but was showing the wrong image (album cover of an excellent Swedish metalcore band, Allt - definitely not NYT's The Daily podcast) and the weather app (right side) was blank except for a weird "mib3.PA" text display:
Porsche Taycan All the Spotify errors... 01_wrong_image_no_weather

When the podcast finished, I went into the Spotify interface to select something else to listen to, but got "An error occurred. Please try again." and a "Repeat" button. Multiple presses of the repeat button did nothing - the error remained.
Porsche Taycan All the Spotify errors... 02_error_occurred

After giving up and switching audio to my phone via Bluetooth, the weather app started loading, but remained as just the "Loading Weather..." with spinning cursor for the remainder of the drive (like 20 minutes):
Porsche Taycan All the Spotify errors... 03_loading_weather_forever

Every time it's something different. Very, very rarely does everything work as it should. I'm continually flabbergasted at the poor infotainment software quality of this car. Just, wow.

I finally gave in an set up Apple CarPlay to use when needed - and discovered that the CarPlay interface can't be controlled from the lower screen (because of course it can't) so I need to extend my arm all the way up to the top touchscreen - the horror! ;)

That's all. Just venting a little. Car is beautiful and great to drive, but my god is the infotainment UX and quality absolutely terrible. Are all Porshes this bad, or is the Taycan an outlier?

I always love it when the car looses connection to spotify (most probably because of network problems), you pressing the Spotify Icon and you get the error that you are not allowed while driving (as if you are typing in Login credentials).

Porsche should market InnoDrive as a technology you'll need while you're forced to debug infotainment problems constantly. ;)

Just avoid PCM and use CarPlay.

Like all Porsche software features, Spotify works 80% of the time (I think it's their engineering motto - "Porsche - works 80% of the time"). The other times you just have to switch to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, then try again another day. I've been doing this for 2 years now, every time Spotify cannot stream for whatever reason, I just switch to CarPlay, then next time I'm leaving passengers in the car while I hop out of the car to go fetch things, I try to see if car native Spotify will connect - it usually does.

Yeah, this is a good strategy. Previously on drives when Spotify would refuse to work I'd resort to using my phone, but as it's happened too many times now (and isn't especially safe, as I need to unbuckle my seatbelt, take out my phone, bring up the Spotify app, ...) CarPlay-as-backup it is.

Re: working 80% of the time, it's funny - I'm a software developer and in my experience that 80% case of "getting the basic functionality working" is usually achieved in a very short amount of time compared to the overall project. It's sorting out the remaining 20% of edge cases, handling exceptions and error conditions, refining the user experience, ... that takes the vast majority of the time and effort. Unfortunately it seems like Porsche just gets to that initial 80% point and stops there. Done stamp. Mission accomplished. ?‍♂
