To give you an idea, my 2023 GTS was produced in July 2023, was an unsold (not presold) allocation (the dealer had to spec it and floor it), and went unsold unit March 2024!

Today, there are still "new" (warranty punched CPO) 2024s on the lots! Wild
Indeed there are. My 2024 4S was built in late 2023 and sold mid-2025 at a healthy discount, warranty punched in 2024 (still don't know why), not CPO, first owner, no loaner / delivery miles.

Odd, so it was never registered?

Correct. Never registered. They were about to "CPO" it, supposedly, but dealer tactics make no sense to me.
It would still cost them money to CPO it. I would have taken a chance and waited for them to slap the CPO on.

My situation was different, mine was a consignment sale. It actually made pricing concessions easier (seller was rationale) and dealer still took care of recalls and prepped the car for delivery.

Curious how much of a discount is a healthy discount?

I've noticed most of the Taycans for sale on the Porsche website are CPOed, likely to help increase interest in the cars. Some '24s are still listed as new, so I'm hopeful I can pick up a '25 CPO GTS when the price drops a little more.

This is the part I don't understand... as a buyer, I would prefer a New car over CPO. Why are dealers so eager to sell cars to themselves and resell them as used? As a buyer, this seems lower value to me than a new car.

They get credit for selling a car that would otherwise sit.
Gets them more allocation with Porsche

This is partially me talking up my own book, but IMO GTS inventory is very limited for the j.1.2. Granted many were not presold, but certain options will make them more desirable.

If you're generally flexible with options then wait and see strategy is good. Otherwise target the car you want and make aggressive offers.

When I searched for my GTS ST, only about 5% of the inventory matched my needs. Even after purchasing in October, I'm still tracking " what could have been", and I've seen only about 2 cars that subsequently came to the market that met my criteria, and all sold sooner than existing inventory, with one selling in less than 2 weeks. In other words, existing legacy inventory is sitting unsold for a reason.

interesting looking at new Audi vs new Porsche related to this topic... my brother drives a gen1 e-Tron GT RS and is ordering the new gen2 GT RS Performance (so Taycan Turbo S level).

In the UK There are:
  • 0 new RS Performance for sale as new vs 12 new J1.2 Taycan Turbo S / GT
  • 20 Audi e-Tron GTs in total vs 75 Taycan J1.2 are sitting on dealer's forecourts

So Audi seem to be managing numbers much better than Porsche.

He's seeing 0% discount on the new Audi.

And yes, I've tried to get him to buy a Taycan but he loves his Audi. To be fair, a couple of years ago, Audi wrote him a £3.5k cheque, no quibbles, when his car was off the road for 2 months with the infamous failed heater, no such customer care at Porsche!

E-Tron is also lower volume and pricing, which explains the inventory numbers.

Also Audi prepackages the options so there is more homogeneous and comparable cars. The unique combinations that Porsche's are built to probably doesn't help.

Another sign of stress in the Taycan inventory, at my dealership there is a 2025 Turbo Sedan with no options. That's right, base White, no option boxes checked. Dealer is pricing the car competitively relative to consumer budgets, and/or is managing cost for a long term inventory.

Yeah, I have a few months (maybe even through next year) before Tesla buys back my car. Waiiting for ppl to return their leases back so inventory can build up on the J1.2 models. Fortunately, GTS models are fairly loaded with options as standard so color (black) is my only requirement.

Porsche Taycan never qualified for $7500 tax credit. I believe most owners don't qualify anyway due to the limit base on personal income. The discount is offered by PFS, PFS can offers any discount base on market demand and call it whatever they like.
I got the $7500 on my 2021 and income was not part of the calculation...That appears to have changed in later years ...never say "never"?
