I was told only side windows are fitted with insulated glass.
Front and rear shares the same part number with non insulated glass.
Insulated glass is standard.

Advanced Climate Control (2-zone) with separate temperature settings and air volume control for driver and front passenger, extended footwell temperature control, automatic air recirculation mode including air quality sensor as well as comfortable control of the airflow via PCM
Parking pre-climatization including pre-conditioning of the battery
Thermally insulated glass all-round
Particle/pollen filter with active carbon filter
Windshield with grey top tint

There is an additional option for thermal and sound insulated glass. It is slightly thicker than the standard glass. (Arguably more for sound, but it has thermal benefits as well.) So they are speaking of the optional glass. @ct-andy is correct, in that it only changes the side windows.

Are there sources for this? I’m curious why the manual has special instructions on toll device placement on the front windshield for this option.

That is a thermal component (metal oxide) that is standard on the front windshield and is not impacted by the thermal and sound insulation. It's an issue with many modern cars. https://info.glass.com/metallized-windshield-purpose/

I should note that it is standard in the US; it might not be standard in all countries.

Ok…but the manual references noise insulating glass with regard to the toll device placement, not thermal.

And you still didn’t provide a source on the information for side windows only?

I’m just asking. I don’t have any special knowledge. Just trying to resolve what appears to be a discrepancy to me.

I was told by my local dealer that although there is a "cut out" for an EZ Pass transponder, they are experiencing problems, and the units are not being read properly. I want to order thermally insulated glass on my upcoming order, but have concerns with this. Does any one have any experience with this issue?
No problem with EZPass here. They do have batteries in them.

My local Porsche center parts specialist looked it up for me. He told me that.
I find it curious then that the manual calls out a difference in windshields.

It would be nice if this could be corroborated by additional sources or if Porsche had other published literature on it.

Are you sure he wasn’t the assistant to the specialist? You can easily see the difference in the front windshield. The optional windshield has a blacked out area above the rear view mirror (because that’s where the metallic cutout is). Like so:

The standard windshield doesn’t:

That's interesting. I didn't post an authority for the side windows only statement because I - like @ct-andy - was told this by my Porsche dealer. It is certainly possible, as there are many vendors who sell acoustic windshields to manufacturers (such as AGC). There is a way, supposedly, that we can tell (e.g., here).

We have a unique advantage, however, as we can compare cars (hopefully). My car DOES have the thermal and sound insulation option. In the lower left (passsenger) corner of the front windshield, there is a parts code. If someone (in the US) who does NOT have the thermal and sound insulation option can do the same, then perhaps we can settle this for certain. I will say that the A/IR code that I have circled in red suggests the possibility that, contrary to what some of us have been told, the windshield in the thermal and sound insulation is different. The “A,” I believe, stands for “Acoustic” and the “IR” for infra red or thermal. Let’s see if someone can post an image to compare!

Standard glass in my RWD. My windshield has the 'A' but no 'IR'. Leads me to believe acoustic only.

Any chance you could post a pic? I’m interested in comparing other info, like the double slash in the top left of the pic @KensingtonPark posted which indicates the glass type as being Regular Multiple Layer.

IR is infrared-reflective.
