TSB: Noise - Droning / Humming from Vehicle Front End -(redesigned fans, air guides, wheel liners)- May 10, 2023

Symptom: Customers complain about droning or humming noise from the front end, even during the charging process.

Cause: This may be caused by foreign matter or dirt in the area of the electric fan and/or between the fan rotor and fan frame. Frequent driving on unpaved roads or roads with a gravel or grit surface or on sanded roads (winter) exacerbates the problem.

Remedial Action:
A new component status of the electric fan (fan with frame and fan motor cap) as well as the air guides
and lower parts of the wheel housing liners is available immediately.
The new design has additional and larger foreign matter elimination openings on the underside as well as
a protective cap to prevent dirt and stones from entering the fan motor.

Well dagnabbit this is EXACTLY the design I suggested (here #8 ) after cleaning and twice removing gravel from my front fan ducts and fan shroud - so now I need to know how can I get this replaced in my vehicle - first step I guess is to remind my SA of the issue (sent him video and my fix) and ask if this can be exchanged under warranty?

EDIT - @Tooney - thanks for sharing - I've contacted my SA and shared this TSB - will be interesting to hear back from him!

This fix should be retrofitted to ALL Taycans as any of our cars can be effected - I have never driven on gravel roads or off-road with this car and my two cases were gravel picked up from paved Houston roads.

Close enough - whenever this sort of thing happens I always video the sound when it first occurs and document every step I took to solve it - I then send this to my SA on the day it happens for just such a record, so hopefully no need to re-invent it

When I first read the TSB, I thought, they did what @ciaranob had recommended. And apparently the fix is in 2023s.

Well parts on order and can get this done possibly week after next! Awesome - might have to delay a bit though as now need to juggle schedules

Thank you for this! Parts ordered. Will be August before I can bring it back in but I never would have known and when I told the Service Dept they suggested it was just the battery cooling…..

Cheers. I wondered about this when I had the left front tyre off in January at my local tyre place and had a peak inside the wheel well.

Bit hard to tell what they specifically updated on the MY23 cars from a cursory look...

So this is a bit strange because it is a design flaw that is manifested if one gets a certain size pebble in the shroud. Most pre-23 cars are under warranty. So if I show up with a pebble in the shroud the dealer would replace the parts? If I don’t get a pebble, I won’t get the fix?

I seem to recall one Forum Mbr being told that pebbles in shroud were a 'wear and tear' issue and not covered by warranty! Total BS imo as the reason they get in there in the first place is due to a fundamentally flawed design - one that was clearly recognized and re-designed for 2023 ...

.... BUT that latest TSB also clearly shows Porsche stepping up to replace these on request - and good for them - BUT

, yet again this should imo be a general recall to ALL pre-2023 Taycans and fixed universally and not on request should you just happened to read that TSB! Hopefully SA's are being advised to offer this fix whenever a customer complains of the issue which is certainly the case in my example.

Had to reschedule mine - July 24th but some other stuff I’m getting g done too so into Aug bef I get it back.

Can someone share the noise/humming that is mentioned in the recall. I’d like to see if I also have this issue and get my SA to take a look into this.

Mate, it ain’t “paved” if you picked up 2 cases of gravel from your fan by driving on the road.. though over here we measure gravel in lbs or cubic feet. ??‍
