What is secret to getting "lift" saved and "lowered" restored?

I have been playing with this for a couple months now and it seems either I am doing something wrong or its just fussy.

As I approach an intersection i tap the car icon so the car will "lift." It handles that part fine. Then it asks if I want it to "save" that location. And I say "confirm."

But in principle it should go back down to "lowered" or "low" afterwards based on how it was set as you approached the intersection right? This is the part that works only a small portion of the time, and if I don't keep an eye on it, I end up driving on "lift" mode permanently, which feels like the car is on stilts.

This is waaaay more effort than its worth if I have to keep monitoring it. I'd just keep it on "Normal" and fugetaboutit.

That is correct, works for me. Does the car icon at least change to show that it is being lowered after crossing the area?

I notice that the lift setting turns blue as I am approaching the area and It will often pop a notice "Smartlift was activated." But what it is NOT always doing is going back to the previous setting. I feel maybe I am doing something wrong, unless it is glitchy for others too. I don't see the blue light after crossing the area.

Car remains in lift until you hit 20 mph. If you want it to lower sooner you have to do it manually, no way for it to save a lower position.

The car definitely should not remain in lift past 20 mph.

Ahhh that could make sense b/c in my neighborhood I rarely hit 20 mph. I'll check! Thank you.

Thats what I see. If my car rises up at a stored smart lift location, it stays at the raised height unless:
- I drive over 20mph, when it immediately lowers
- I leave the area where smart lift is activated (I have no idea how far this is since in most cases I only see the car lower after I've driven over 20mph)

Edit: I did a quick test. I drove very slowly from my parking lot where I have smart lift activated. I drove three blocks and the car stayed raised. Interesting! And it did not lower until I hit 30mph.

What if I don't go below 20 mph at the location where there's a saved lift? For example, there's a parking lot that sometimes I entered from the main street, but sometimes I drive straight through it. If I am entering the parking, then I'd slow down of course, but on times when I don't need to go in but drive across the same entrance point, would it still raises if I am going above 20? I'd think not, but wanted to confirm.
