Scary situation, glad you are ok. Surprised at the fire in that location, maybe a dumb question, but were you carrying anything in the frunk that was flammable? Is the 12v battery located there?

Makes me think that with the noise insulting glass (really hard to break) there is no way to get out of a situation like this unless a door opens.

Nothing in the flammable in the front ...but there are some lithium cells (seen on car diagram that was shown to me by the fire men)

It was of my consideration , and made me avoid the insulated glass option ... harder to break in emergency I beleive

People forget that the most flammable liquid in any car whether it is petrol/diesel/electric is brake fluid.

To Taycan Owners...
had an accident on a wet road @90km/h

To make a complicated maneuver... simple...car position itself perpendicular to the concrete garderail.
So the shock was kinda brutal ... and the car bounce back to the middle of the way.

Airbags ... all activated ...
"Ding dong" and the speaking lady alarm sos went trough...As well as smoke ? inside the car...

And then I looked at the flame outside ? in front of windshield...?

Jumped out of the car and watched it ? ? ? ?

Nb my vin had to make a battery recall & brake recall (2 days?only? into workshop few weeks before)

Is it normal that fire ignite at that speed????even with a shock ? I then looked around if can find any crash test for these EV like euroncaps ... but not successful .

Fire is always impressive .... and I am looking to the "replacement" right now ?....:brokenhearted:

PS:was lucky that I could go out of the car without a glass breaker ...then 10buck indubitable must have (that porsche DO NOT provide even payingit)

Be safe on the road fellow taycanists

@jijitalia I'm simply glad that you are able to write the post and seemingly did not get seriously injured. Cars can be replaced.

Sorry to hear of your major issue but like all here, so glad you escaped uninsured. Thanks for posting your ugly misadventure. Reading subsequent posts after yours got me to remove the double pane glass from my intended upcoming order — especially as I live in the most quiet countryside.

The new R1234yf aircon refrigerant is actually flammable (mildly flammable, per safety leaflet).

Porsche Taycan:
Depending on the market, the air-conditioning system uses refrigerant named R1234yf or R134a. If refrigerant R1234yf is used, there´s a label located on the inside of the luggage compartment lid.

"Unlike the predecessor R134a which was completely non-flammable, these new HFO's had the adverse effect of a slightly increased flammability making R1234yf “mildly flammable” placing it in the refrigerant classification of A2L".

Look at the bad bright side. You probably won't be insured for another Taycan or going to have a super high premium going forward. But you can now order a 911 Carrera T Cabriolet guilt free with the insurance money.

No.
Gasoline is way more flammable than brake fluid.
Besides, brake fluid is highly hygroscopic so at the right saturation it doesn't even ignite and burn anymore.
DOT 3 brake fluid is classed as only moderately flammable with a flammability rating of just 1.
It would be silly to use a highly flammable liquid for brake fluid as brakes and therefore the brake fluid can get extremely hot, especially on heavy high performance cars like the Taycan...

Caspita, impressionante.

My worst nightmare, I have the insulated glass and I've always wondered how to get out of the car if the door doesn't open automatically on the impact. Worse with my kids in the back..

Would you recommend to have a glassbreaker somewhere in the car?

yep - first thing I bought ... amazon like 10$
I double tape a velcro just beneath the screen control (well hidden, and super reachable for driver and passenger) make sure to use M3 tape as the screen maybe become hot

Not a battery fire indeed. Propably A/C refridgerant as at least R1234yf is mildly flammable.
