Hi There,

Can I charge my UK Porsche Taycan in Europe - are they the same adapters?!

My wife has a new job, so I will live in Italy, but come back to the UK once per quarter and I plan to drive as i have customers en route! Is it practical /possible?

The EU (including UK at the time) standardised the CCS plug so no need for any adaptors - including Tesla Superchargers that are open to non- Tesla’s.

Of course. More than “doable’, it is a fabulous way to travel. I’ve done 60,000 miles of European touring in EVs without a single issue.

Charging on the continent is a breeze. Use A Better Route Planner to look at charging options. Stick to 150kW+ chargers, Ionity is the cheapest with the Porsche cars. Fastned is also excellent.

Find a route via Germany which has some fun autobahn driving. Stay in France rather than NL because the Dutch have a new 100 km/h daytime limit on all their motorways. Do not under any circumstances go near Paris. Have fun.

I agree. It’s more than doable. I’ve driven mine to Germany and back and charging in Europe was no problem at all.

Try to use Ionity chargers where you can - many of the other providers boast about their fast charging capacity, but fail to deliver. Ionity is not always consistent, but at least in all cases 'fast enough' in my experience.

We travel to Italy each summer vacation - key is to find lodgings within a reasonable distance (say 30km max) of a fast charger with a good rating on Chargemap by recent users. There are not that many fast chargers in Italy as compared to some other EU countries, so this is important in order to avoid charging stress.

I echo the above, it's actually a joy to drive through France & Italy vs the UK

For our UK cars, will the HV charging port being on the other side matter during charging?

Not at most fast charging stations – especially not at IONITY. Tesla superchargers can be a bit more of an issue as they are designed for a car with the charging port on the left side rear. Though the newer v4 Tesla chargers are designed with non-Tesla cars in mind and have much longer cables that can reach.

I assume you have the Porsche charging card.
If so prepare to be impressed by the ubiquity of high power charging options across France, Italy and (if you go that way) Switzerland. From Geneva I drove UK and back using Ionity, also to Northern Italy.
The Italian hotel I typically stay at has Porsche destination charging for free.
Check out your Porsche app for the options, and rest easy.

its a fabulous drive to Italy, we drove to Lake Garda last year in in our Taycan CT . It was a dream. No charging issues , as used Porsche route planner and charge card / key fob. French Alps, geneva, Mont Blac tunnel and Dolomites, smooth fast roads in countryside, with easy access to autoroutes. Make sure you take your V5 doc and get Crit Air pass for France. We can wait to do the trip again later this tear

Amazing! Thank you so much. With the IONITY, is this the chargers found using Porsche sat nav route planner? How do you pay for these, can you pay via a visa credit card, or do you need an app?

Any of the above. IONITY is cofunded by a bunch of manufacturers including Porsche so its regular credit card price is high but if you have the Porsche Chsrging Service card then v cheap (33/39c/kWh). Or IONITY own passport scheme which is in between.
If you sign up for the Porsche card then you can set the car to automatically be recognised which works most of the time.

Either. But if you have the 'porsche charging service' subscription (1st 3 years free) then you get subsidised ionity (and others) with that.
Personally i let it lapse as rarely charge from home, but sort of trips you're talking about its probably worth a look. You can see your account status in the my Porsche app.

May well be other better subscriptions that would suit your travel profile i guess.
