I enjoyed your responses, everyone. I lived for awhile with a standard poodle, an intelligent dignified animal. When we walked in the neighborhood dogs would bark and run up to him. He would stand still with his noble head erect while they sniffed his ass and then he would just walk on. Not arrogant, just patient with inferior behavior.

This is my first Porsche and I've noticed that not everyone is happy for me. I try to be considerate towards other drivers, but it seems some people see me in my gleaming silver Taycan and don't know what to think. What is your experience?
It is all in your head. if you see someone looking at you in your car, you might think that they are admiring your car or think you are a tosser because you bought a silver car instead of Carmine Red. They are probably thinking, that reminds me I must buy fish for dinner tonight.

Great thread, I have wondered the same..

Recently bought a Taycan CT (first Porsche+EV) and do notice a difference in how people react when rolling up in this car, less likely to let you in merging or at intersections - potentially because other people perceive Porsche owners as arrogant.. I also experience admiration for the cars presence/design.

I bought the car purely for the stunning design, technology/performance, not sure yet how I feel about the Porsche Brand perception. In the meantime I try to share the driving experience with others. I find I get most joy out of the car this way.

And support shop owner and PCA member for almost 40 years, I have run into a few jerks BUT MAINLY GREAT PEOPLE. I've probably run into more who are at my pace of employment, Church, the supermarket, bar, and certainly Corvette owners.
YMMV

CONFESSION: I Bought a Taycan and Instantly Became Arrogant

It happened overnight.

Yesterday, I was just a humble, eco-conscious citizen trying to cut my carbon footprint. Today, I’m parked diagonally across two spaces at Whole Foods, sipping a $14 matcha latte with the smugness of someone who definitely knows what torque vectoring is (even if I don’t)

I waved at another Taycan owner this morning. He didn’t wave back. That’s how I knew—I had ARRIVED.

My neighbor drives a Tesla and keeps talking about “range anxiety.” I nodded politely while silently thinking, “Ah yes, peasant problems.”

My wardrobe has slowly morphed into 90% Porsche Design. My dog’s name is now “Launch Control.” My license plate frame says “It’s Electric. Be Jealous.”

And last week, when someone asked if I missed the sound of an engine, I simply replied, “I don’t listen to noise. I curate experiences.”

So yes, maybe Porsche owners are arrogant.

Or maybe we’re just exquisitely aware of our superiority.

Either way—cheers from the driver’s seat of something faster, quieter, and (let’s be honest) better looking than your car.

I'm trying to bring a new Porsche culture into my community. I smile and wave to each Porsche owner, and it turns out, the men are nice, and the women are snobs.

I am not seeing it.
I may be just invisible in my Grey Turbo GT as I never get a second look from anyone, car blends in perfectly among a sea of other Porsches, BMWs and MBs.
Was a bit different with my wife driving her Lusso but it could also be the fact she is a former Vice Miss Universe.

Another thing, a 911 is a Porsche, Taycans, Macans, Cayennes etc, are just money makers for the company that makes Porsches, the above mentioned 911s.
All the rest are just appliances…..
I have one too as Porsche makes very good appliances.

BEST LINE in what was a supremely well written post. My wife and I couldn’t stop laughing

So glad to see we are finding time to explore the full range of the Porsche Experience, instead of overthinking battery module issues. Thanks OP for taking us in this new direction ?

THE NO ASSHOLE RULE - Back in 2004 Professor Bob Sutton of Stanford published an article in the Harvard Business Review entitled “More Trouble than they are Worth” about assholes in the workplace. He got so many responses he decided to write a book entitled “The No Asshole Rule”. When I started my own company in 2003 there were a set of values I wanted to follow - I didn’t want to hire any assholes, and I didn’t want to work for any assholes; I also believe in the presumption of goodwill when encountering an email or situation where someone is behaving badly. Bob Sutton captured my value system very well, and 22 years later I’ve never been happier.

So has buying my first Porsche (a Taycan 4s 2021) changed anything? Not really. I am the sort who engages a stranger at a charger, who let’s someone waiting know that I’m almost done, who waves at other Taycan drivers, and generally tries to avoid being an asshole, or engaging with assholes.

I suspect there is a regional element to this. In the Seattle area if you signal to change lanes people generally make space and let you in. If you wave at them to say ”Thanks”, they often wave back. Boston is different (a lovely place, but different for drivers). In Boston the only wave I ever got was from a woman who made an illegal U-turn from behind me at a stoplight, and clipped my bumper - “Sorry!” she said as she waved and drove off.

Bottom Line - I don’t think owning a Porsche has changed me, but if I find myself sitting in the silence and “curating new experiences”, perhaps I’ll have to rethink that ?

Thank so much for your comment and post. Was inspired by reading the new issue of Christophorus

As a Ferrari owner, I can say public perception tends to be gentler towards Porsche owners ;)
