The idea that any of this will come to the J1.1 Taycans is silly. The existing hardware is barely fast enough to support current software, and Porsche is slow with updates already - no J1.2 updates for J1.1 cars, for example. CarPlay Ultra and Apple CarKey (or whatever they call it) may come to new Macan or Cayenne models that use the Android Auto hardware/software stack, but it's extraordinarily unlikely that these will be retrofitted to existing Taycans.

All my opinion, with no inside knowledge.

Just want to add the context that 4360 runs on same hardware in MY25, and is significantly faster/more responsive, so the "barely fast enough - hardware - to support current software" argument is partly false, as a big problem was clearly software optimization.

4578 in MY26 may or may not have additional hardware to allow new features, such as Dolby audio. But it runs similar if not identical hardware for the PCM also, and it's definitely faster too.

I also don't think this will come to J1.1 - talking about car play ultra - not because of hardware incompatibility, but simply because Porsche doesn't want to spend the money to bring all cars in service to update them - as they have shown with PCM version 4360, which was only rolled out to MY25 cars post shipping via an update campaign from 3882, which could have just as easily included all the other cars too.

As for apple key on j1.1, we don't know if any taycan has ultra-wideband support.

We will see tomorrow I guess, but I wouldn't have any expectations from either of the 2 events.

There is no power button in my wife's Volvo EV. Just get in, put it in gear, and go. Same with Tesla.
I haven't used the one in taycan either more than a few tens of times in the years since i've had it.
Having the key in the pocket/front cupholder and pressing brake pedal will start the car 99/100 times.

Not sure why people are bothered so much about that button...

Concur with powering on Taycan. Unless there is something I don't know. How about powering off? There are multiple times I had to walk back to the car to power it off.

I get out and press the lock button on the keyfob, which also powers it off.

It might be an option burried in the horrible PCM menus, but it definitely is a thing that I have been doing for years

Just heard an Apple rumor that they intend to announce at the September 9 iPhone event that Porsche will support Apple CarKey and CarPlay ultra at the time of release of MY 2026. No mention was made of support for earlier years. take this with a grain of salt most apple one off rumors are false.
A September 9 announcement date fits with:
1. the annual Apple phone release event (September 9), and
2. that Taycans can access the Tesla supercharger network starting September 9.
So, this is a promising rumor.

Could be that apple ultra will be added, i think that the main Porsche announcement is the Cayman/Boxster EV similar to what Audi did last week.

My first car had a manual choke, remember those.
Like an organ stop, pull it all the way out for a cold start rich mixture, and then slowly push it back in as you warmed up the engine. Push it back too early you'd starve the engine and stall , and forget to push it back too late and the cabin filled with petrol vapour. Happy days.
Now I'm backing my car out of the garage remotely using my phone!

When they announced last month that they are dropping/down scaling the battery manufacturer they bought to make the battery for it? Doubt it.

The cayman/718 EV seems to be in development hell, from an EV architecture point - since they don't want to build a skateboard design for it, but a central mono-block, similar to a mid-engine - which is a big cooling problem which only CATL seems to have solved - only 1 similar EV in the world, the SC1, and it's a protoype.

No mules have been seen since spring, and those mules where with Northvolt batteries, and Northvolt is no more.

But I do hope you are right, as that's one of the cars I am excited about, together with the Polestar 6 which comes next year

Yeah you are right, i got the dates confused, the announcement was Sept 7 and it was the 911 Turbo S, so no cayman/boxster EV soon... unless they will get the Rimac batteries

fourth quarter of 2027. As a tier-one supplier for several automakers, Rimac Technology’s parts are already being fitted to cars made by the BMW Group and Porsche.
Maybe in a taycan 2.1 facelift with those timeframes, and that's if no delay happens - hopeing the cayman EV is not delayed until 2029 😅
At that price per kw estimated for solid state batteries, I don't think this battery will be seen in below 200k spec cars - and I am hoping that the cayman EV doesn't aim to be 200k.
It's also a skateboard design still, much easier to manage cooling on those.

The power button is there on my Taycan but I rarely use it as the car starts up as soon as I get in with the key. I only use it to shut the car down at the end.

You are always going to need a physical key to open the car when the car 12V or your iPhone battery has gone flat.

Hey guys, I have the 2025 Taycan 4 loaner at the moment. Starting today, I am seeing the apple car play’s google map directions on the heads up display. Is that related to Ultra? I’m confused because I drove yesterday too and heads up display didn’t show this navigation data from CarPlay!
