My 2021 CPO 4s has been making a clunking noise from the driver’s front strut over speed bumps, and the dealer diagnosed it today as a faulty strut but they insist on replacing both front air struts.

The estimate is $13600 for both, plus $650 for alignment 😂😂

Does this price align with what people have paid for air struts?

I would be interested if anyone has done and paid for this out of pocket.

This would appear as should be covered by Porsche sold extended warranty, but if not, may be someone can confirm. I am getting extended warranty as my plan is to keep the car long term and up to 8 years or 100k miles at a minimum. The extended warranty runs in a $7k-8k range for 8 years or 100k miles coverage to align to HV battery warranty.

I analyzed the extended warranty for this failure and coverage appears to be very subjective:

When an air strut would be covered
Coverage applies if:

  1. The noise is caused by an internal mechanical failure (e.g., leaking bladder, worn internal seals, failed damper valve).
  2. The strut is no longer performing its designed function (e.g., improper damping, sagging, uneven ride height).
  3. The failure is not caused by an excluded condition (accident, aftermarket suspension, corrosion, etc.).
  4. Porsche’s diagnostic confirms the issue is a Failure, not “normal noise.”
If those conditions are met, the Platinum plan pays for:

  • The strut assembly
  • Labor
  • Required fluids
  • Diagnostics (if the failure is covered)

I suggest you get a warranty that has wear and tear coverage. Porsche Cpo explicitly covers suspension parts but has a wear and tear exclusion clause in it.

If it’s wear and tear, wouldn’t all of them need replacement?

If I were you, I would fight harder to get it covered.

In canada there was also a recall for the struts (ANB8) that applies to cettain 2021 models. I spoke to customer service and they advised that replacement could be performed under this campaign.

Seems crazy expensive. I did a quick search and you can buy brand new air struts for around $1500 and refurbished for $500. If I was paying out of pocket pocket I would go to an independent Porsche mechanic

I am seeing air struts at $3100 each, and rebuilt units are $1000 each.

Find a good independent porsche shop. Porsche Dealers charge as if these are a 911 GT3RS.

My dealer was charging me $6500 for a side skirt, 33% over msrp for the parts.
I only needed 2 parts instead of 10, got the parts for 1/2 price, $300 for labor, done in 3 hours.

My wheels neded to be touched up, dealer charged Porsche insurance $250 a wheel. It costs them $100 a wheel to fix
