Team Taycan. If I go with the 20 inch sport aero wheels, will that be a good look? I am tempted to go with 21 inch spyder but not convinced. Is there a disadvantage to getting the 20 inch wheels?

I don't see a slightly 'sportier' ride from the 21" wheels as being a disadvantage.... Some would see it as a plus. I suppose it depends in part as to whether you see the Taycan as more of a sports car or more of a luxury car.

In any case, I think the difference is pretty subtle. I drove my CT4S on 21" wheels for about 4 months then changed to my 20" winter wheels and I struggled to tell much difference. As W1nge says, the air suspension does a great job of refining the ride on big wheels.

Thanks everyone for their comments. For now, will stick with the 20s. Will allow me to select a few other options that I was looking at. All of the feedback has been extremely helpful. Thanks again

I would choose the ones you like the styling of best.

I'm on a waitlist for a Taycan 4CT, but I'm planning to run an aftermarket set of wheels with a non-factory tire size.

Specifically, I am thinking to do 255/40/21 on 21x9 in the front, and 295/35/21 on 21x11 in the rear. This creates a nice middle ground of sidewall thickness between the factory 20 and 21 options, and having a middle ground of tire width too, which I actually think more significantly contributes to the range difference between the factory 19, 20 and 21s.

Below are the specs for the two factory options, as well as the custom option I am thinking

Factory 20s: 245/45/20 (28.7" height, 4.3" sidewall), 285/40/20 (29.0" height, 4.5" sidewall), -1.0% F/R size differential

Factory 21s: 265/35/21 (28.3" height, 3.7" sidewall), 305/30/21 (28.2" height, 3.6" sidewall), +0.4% F/R size differential

Custom 21s: 255/40/21 (29.0" height, 4.0" sidewall), 295/35/21 (29.1" height, 4.1" sidewall), +0.3% F/R size differential

As you can see, the F/R side differential is somewhere in between the factory 20s and 21s, so shouldn't cause an issue with TC or any systems. Sidewall is also a midway point between the two. The only question in my mind is if the 29 inch height will fit in the front wheelwell without rubbing - it's only 0.3 inches more than the factory 20s, so may be fine.

Given the (very high IMO) option prices of Porsche factory wheels ($2,380 for 20s, $4,380 for 21s), I can get a set of Vossen HF5s and Michelin AS/4 tires (~$4,500) for the same price as the factory 21s, and still be able to sell the base 19s for at least some money, so cost wise it's somewhere in between optioning the factory 20s and 21s too, and being able to choose custom offset

Holy moly! Thank you for the detailed response. I must say I am very impressed with the Taycan community! This is my first Porsche and I have heard about the bond between owners -- this forum validates it!!

Its a good forum.

Far more technical information shared than the typical car forum.

No problem - I've got aftermarket wheels and non-OEM tire sizes on my other vehicles, and so have done a lot of digging into these things for other cars, hence I was interested in how to get a happy medium setup between the 20s and 21s for my Taycan when I get it

An alternate option if you don't want to worry about whether or not the front tire will rub is to do 265/40/20 and 305/35/20. The overall height of this setup is the same as the factory 21s, sidewall is somewhere in between the factory 20s and 21s but a bit closer to the 20s at 4.2" front and rear

FYI I've been using this tool to play around with sizing to see what fits

1) 20 vs 21. I had both and immediately sold the 20's and bought the 21's. I have zero ride difference with the air suspension and like the look of the 21's, 100x better.
2) I love the custom 21 size!!! 255/40/21 and 295/40/21 - you can get this great tire that is 540 AA A rated and actually rated high in snow/ice!

I'm not concerned about rub with that small of a difference. Also know the tire is skinner at 255 vs 265 so that will help.

I'm going to be buying this set of tires when my summer tires wear out - and that is probably soon given how short the life span is!

Definitely interested to see how it turns out! You may even be switching before I actually get my CT, whenever that will be ?

Also just as a heads up, think the rear needs a 295/35/21 instead of 295/40/21 rear (realized I made a typo in my original post) to keep the F/R stagger similar, but that is also available in the Pilot Sport A/S4 so should be all good
