Porsche sells the Taycan with summertires only on the 21” wheels .
Since winter is coming I asked Porsche what tires I should mount .
Much to my surprise the said I couldn’t since they did not approve any 21” wintertire and I should buy a 20” complete winterset .
Not really keen on buying a extra set of wheels should I mount “ non approved “ Michelin Alpin 5 wintertires or not ?

I am ordering a separate set of 20” wheels with winter tyres. Narrower is better on snow IME, and they are still very wide.
Genuine Porsche set or aftermarket? Winters are expensive and hard enough to get let alone in 21’s. A set of 20s makes far more sense.

Are you going full winters or all-seasons?

Given this car is now probably going to arrive in the dead of winter, pure summer tyres don’t make much sense. Not to me anyway. I know some folks don’t care less.

I had the same dilemma and ended up going with a second Porsche 20” wheel set with winters. My CT4 was ordered with 20” summers and delivered in November, so I had the dealership swap onto the winters for delivery.

With aftermarket tires, there’s the NF0 warranty bogeyman, which you might not care about. If you get a set of OEM 20”s with NF0 winter tires, that avoids that.

Removing/adding tires to the same rims twice a year increases the risk of damage. With a full set you can DIY swap if you have the right tools.

I am buying Porsche winter wheel and tyre set. I would probably go for all seasons for an Oxfordshire winter but they don’t offer them.

The 19” wheels are probably best for winter tyres but I dislike the styling so going for one of 2 of the 20” options, I am due to finalise this week and the car may as well be delivered, as I had expected to be done last winter  On the winter tyre set and the 21” CT wheels stored.

I didn’t think they were excessively expensive for forged OEM wheels, actually.

OTOH I have always ordered my winter wheels and tyres from a specialist in the past. My insurance are happy to fit the winter wheels as long as the tyre size doesn’t change so I thought it wise to go full Porsche spec since the tyre sizes will be different on the Taycan.

In general a 21” winter tire isn’t ideal but I am sure it would be good enough. I don’t buy this concept of an “approved” winter tire.

Thanks for your update.

Think I might go down the same route. Factory 20’s definitely a better option for winter. I prefer having summer and winter/all-seasons on separate rims. Just drop and swap.

I’ve already ordered the same and will probably be getting them switched on if/when I pick it up, assuming it’s November or some month vaguely in Winter 😞🤦🏼🤷🏼

Dare ask: Did they provide any “goodwill” with your wheels/tyres order considering all the delay shenanigans this year?

20 inch wheels and tyres are good for winter. I went for aftermarket rims and Pirelli PZero winter which are NFO. And get a quieter car with better consumption. The Porsche wheels are badly overpriced in my mind.
