With PB you are only talking about 30ish extra miles. The extra HP is to make up for the added battery weight. Save your money.
I just finished a 1,750 mile trip from Raleigh to Chicago and back in my RWD SB.
I wasn’t willing to pay for the PB for the 30-ish extra miles it offered.

I ordered the smaller battery and this has lessened my anxiety about doing so. I feel like most threads here are like “bigger battery. No question. Just do it. Range matter more than anything” for 5 pages. This is the most balanced discussion of it I’ve seen—perhaps because more people have real-world experience with the car.
I totally agree! I could never find the answers I was searching for. So that's the reason why I finally decided to ask these questions. Thank you everyone !

I think whichever battery suits your needs, is the right decision.

Also, as a side issue.....
I am buying my car, and although I know that the current battery tech will be very outdated in 3-5 years.......it won't be nearly as outdated as a petrol/diesel car will be, if I bought one of those now.

By then, the charging network will have improved dramatically and range will not be an issue, as there will be rapid chargers everywhere. In the meantime petrol stations will start shutting or converting to charging stations.

So current EV (desirable) cars may still be a good used buy, even though they will be outdated.
And the Taycan is rated the highest retention value EV in a recent survey.

So certainly a far better buy than getting an ICE now imo.....regardless of which battery you choose.

Hi guys, I ordered a MY22 RWD Taycan at the beginning of July. I still have a few weeks left before the change freeze point. Wanted to ask if anyone has driven the RWD version with both batteries ? I know there's a 54HP difference. Mt question is, is the power noticeable between the 79 and 93kwh battery ? Debating on whether I should add the 93kw battery or not. Thanks guys.

The question is not performance but range. If your going to use the Taycan locally with trips of 100-150 miles, the SB is fine. If you intend to not be limited significantly by range, say 300-450 mile trips are possible and range anxiety is a concern, get the PB.
I have it and I am comfortable with trips that push the range and in conjunction with the Electrify America grid routinely make 400-600 mile trips.

Whilst I am with you on the sentiment, fuel stations won’t shut down as quickly as some predictions because lorries, vans, buses, ambulances, fire engines etc will still need to fill up and there are no currrent plans to electrify all of these. I think they will keep fossil fuels available for a long time.

Personally, if I were buying a RWD Taycan I think i'd go for the smaller battery because:
-The RWD is the lightest Taycan, and by selecting the smaller battery you maximize the weight savigs.
-Most of my trips are well within the capacity of even the standard battery
-One longer trips, I think that extra ~30 miles of range will rarely make a big dfference. Either way, you still need to do some planning on longer trips and hope for the best w/ charging stations being operative when you get there.

And look at it this way-- if you spent 200k on a loaded Turbo S (which comes w/ the bigger battery) it'd have roughly the same range as your RWD Taycan w/ the standard battery!
